The even randomer thread

Officially official. Sent in the letter of resignation just now. Company wouldn't match, or get close enough for me to consider (they never actually gave me a counter offer), so I'm taking it. Hopefully its not terrible! haha

My wife will soon be changing jobs.  She just doesn't know where yet.  She teaches at a high school on the east side of town.  She's got an offer to move over to a school in the same district but on the west side, much closer to our home (and the route is much less congested during rush hour).

Yesterday when she formally got the offer, she also got a call from Region 11 (a state-run service center for educational services); they're interested in her working for them as a teaching specialist; she would basically teach other teachers effective techniques.  That job would pay more, plus she wouldn't have to bring papers home to grade every night.  It would be much less stressful.

But she needs to give the other school her commitment in the next two weeks.  She doesn't know if Region 11 can interview her and come up with a decision that fast.  It would be a great position for her if she could get it though.

That second option sounds super cool. I think it would be fair of your wife to mention the other position to them, too, and ask for a fast track if possible. Since they came calling for her I would think they'd be willing.

Congrats Dave!

Powers out. Went out at 430 at work, it’s out at home... my one. Free. Night. The only one. Darks at hockey, I finally have some time to answer the screaming and angry emails and texts from overdue freelance.... and now no power. Grid said 6:45. Then it went blank. Now they’re expecting it at midnight.

Livid doesn’t begin to describe how I feel right now.

Same here. The one time ONE F’in Time I don’t have all my devices charged and was looking forward to watching some hockey. ARGH! So now I’m on 44% on the iPad Pro with a hotspot to my phone with my teeth clenched hoping it lasts.

We have this guy in our neighborhood who is just about the most arrogant know-it-all you'll ever meet.  A couple months ago he posted a message in the neighborhood facebook page about some concrete company he was using for a big project, recommending them to anyone looking for work.  He said something along the lines of "and if you know the XXXXX family, you know that we always do our research", and then finished up with "I give them the XXXXX XXXXXXX stamp of approval".

So fast-forward to today and he has posted a message saying that this company was a scam, listing out their full name and the guy who runs it.  Someone googled the guy's name and within 30 seconds found a long list of BBB complaints.  So much for that family and their extensive research process.  I'm not doing the original post justice with my paraphrasing above, but let's just say it was easily the most arrogant thing I've ever seen in this neighborhood.  I really hope he's the only one who wound up getting caught up in it because it's one hell of a dose of karmic justice.

Neighborhood Facebook pages are my favorite. Absolutely awash with local morons for our comedic benefit.

Checkout Nextdoor if you want some hyper-local hot-takes.

So at work we are hiring a junior person for a post-college, 2- to 3-year role.  Someone screens all of the resumes and googles the ones who look promising to find out whether there is any damaging info out there on them.

One young woman who made it through the first screen with very good college grades didn't make it to the interview stage because she was arrested last year for drunkenly urinating on the sidewalk in front of a police station, and then punching a cop when he tried to get her to move along.

She's now working for NY state, btw.

I left it over a year ago, but the wife will share with me the random bits of idiocy like this one.  It's a real shame that the page isn't more useful.  It could be so much more than it is.  We're in a 3 year old new construction neighborhood, so there are so many people who are all in the same boat, new to the area with a lot to learn.  Unfortunately it pretty much always turns into an internet connection speed richard measuring contents.  The guy in question here was the worst offender.   Back when I was in the page, there were multiple occasions where someone would post asking for a recommendation on something like lawn care and this fool would respond by saying "I don't know, but you should get so-and-so as your internet provider".  He would do it for every single request and then someone else would chime in propping up that company's competitor.

As a side note, I actually do need some concrete patched up.  I know who I will turn to for top notch research.

Yeah, Nextdoor tends to over-exaggerate what's going on in the neighborhood.  "Do you know why there are cops at XX intersection?"  "Did you hear gunshots?"  "I heard the guy had a knife!"

Mine is about 2% interaction that's helpful, 5% lost animals, 5% talking about "suspicious characters", and 88% this one dude complaining about speeding on our street. I live in the city; every block is either a light, a stop sign, or a roundabout, so no one is getting over about 40 mph on there.

So, our beloved Legend ( :flirt: ) was in for it's Spring tune up.  Also, due for it's MVI ... a cash grab for service types and the Province, but you can't legally drive a car in NS without it.

The ABS light went on about a year ago.  No big deal ... I hate ABS and much prefer the standard braking system.  Fast forward to today and the MVI failed due to a problem with the ABS pump ... yuck!!

So, now on top of everything else on my plate I am charged with trying to source a part cheaper than the $2,000 Acura wants for this pump thingie.

Someone remind me of this when Thursday comes around.

I had a brainless knuckle dragger challenge me to a fist fight on the job site today.

Actually he shoved me, got in my face and then challenged me. Uhhhmmm. I’m not in middle school anymore so, no.

I’m also the foreman so I can’t do that. I humiliated him instead. It was easy. He was all emo and freaking out. I just let him carry on like a whimpy loser in front of everyone. Did the trick, I think. I doubt he will be back tomorrow.

Honest question. Is there a level of "FU" in someone's past that may actually be desirable? Or in this PC world, as a company, are you required to hire June or Ward Cleaver?

I don't understand the whole "wanting to fight people at work" thing. Gotta think most guys just wanna show up, get their hours, and go home without being hassled too much.

Not my work. Most people don't want to show up. When they do, they want to leave early. And when they don't get picked to leave early they decide to take an occurrence and leave early anyway.
