While sitting in the hot tub I notice a very tiny spider laying his death snare. Very meticulous and steady is the game. Round and round. I’m wondering how successful this endeavor will be. Suddenly an equally small fly hits the trap! Tiny spider moves swiftly. BAM! Got him!

Tiny spider goes back again, around and around, this time apparently winding up the death snare.

Now I’m wondering if I’m tiny spider, or am I tiny fly? Either way, I’m going round and round.

Sometimes you're the wasp.  Sometimes you're the windshield.

Not really a big fan of being high in a hot tub myself. Too much going on

I appreciate the fear and struggle that I witness aren’t t mine. That is a true statement. Cruel and calloused for certain, but true as the sky is blue. I’m tired of my mind taking me randomly to the catastrophic scenes that my eyes have witnessed. We can’t turn back time though, we can’t unsee.

In consolation, tiny fly suffered little and tiny spider grows. I do well when I’m in the mindset of tiny spider. I do fine as tiny fly too. Anything else. Meh.

Maybe hockey becomes fun again?

We’ll all hoot n holler and sweep away ALL the spider webs.

This seems especially fitting

I'd rather be high in my hot tub with my wife than probably just about anywhere in the world.

... and there would be plenty going on.

You gotta watch out for those hot tub spiders. One of the original Slayer guitarists, Jeff Hanneman, got bit by a poisonous spider when he was in his hot tub and he ended up developing some flesh eating virus that destroyed his entire arm and ending up killing him in a round about way since he was unable to keep playing so he drowned his sorrows in booze until his liver shut down. He died 5 years ago yesterday.

RIP, Jeff.

For the math wizzers out there... Harrington has written that Chicago and Ottawa were "one number off" from the winning the lottery, because the winning number was 6 and Chicago had 7 and Ottawa had 5. Is 5 one number off from 6? Any more than 10 is one number off?

Also: #semantics.

And is only missing by one number on the last ball only any different than only missing by one number on the first ball only?  When you start playing that game, I bet you get close to saying most of the teams only missed by one number.

I know that Chicago just missed it because the 6 ball pushed the 11 ball out of the way.  I find that a lot more fascinating than whatever Harrington is trying to get at.

I honestly don't think anyone wants such granular details of your private life. Please, sir.

This is extremely random, but I can't post it anywhere else at this point so there's a shot someone here will know.

Does anyone here work for, or know someone who works for, Utilant in Buffalo? I have a job offer from there that I've basically accepted at this point, but I have some questions about the culture there.

The offer is so good for me financial and career wise that I'd probably accept it if it was anything other than a hellscape, but I saw some reviews on Glassdoor that were...worrisome.

" There is no better place to geek out with your co-workers on music, video games, anime, etc. than Utilant"

That (which is not something I would write on a glassdoor review, honestly...) combined with the reviews saying how toxic the culture is and how you structure your day yourself... man, did my old company reopen here in a different industry?  One of the pro comments is that they're fed a lot..  It kinda looks like for every bad review, someone posts a glowing review not long after that refutes the points the bad review had....

Interview and see.

Where I work, people who are working massive OT are the only ones who get fed.  So if they get fed a lot, it could mean they're working a lot of OT.

You need to request an interview. YOU need to interview THEM. Ask most of the questions. Get as good of a read as you can on what is going on there. Don’t be bashful and don’t leave any questions on the table.

And then make a decision with what you’ve personally seen and heard.

I used to travel to another site and do some crazy IT stuff in support of experiments; "Pizza Night" was code for "we're staying until midnight. I do miss it though.

This is all solid info, guys. I took We've's advice and talked to the manager. According to him, and he seemed earnest, those problems haven't been as big an issue on his side of the company, its more the sales department. His guys rarely work overtime, too. We'll see honestly.

I'm accepting the offer, short of my current place matching or coming close. Having a meeting with my current manager in about an hour, we'll see what happens. I doubt they match.

Honestly this is such a raise for me, and a good move career wise, that I can deal with it being awful for a year, if in fact it is. I'm in a rut at the current place, so I need to move on anyways to move up at all.

Thanks for all the advice, and I hope most of you are wrong, lol.

I've noticed that companies around here, on Glassdoor, often have issues on the "business side". I could speculate as to why that is...

My wife will soon be changing jobs.  She just doesn't know where yet.  She teaches at a high school on the east side of town.  She's got an offer to move over to a school in the same district but on the west side, much closer to our home (and the route is much less congested during rush hour).

Yesterday when she formally got the offer, she also got a call from Region 11 (a state-run service center for educational services); they're interested in her working for them as a teaching specialist; she would basically teach other teachers effective techniques.  That job would pay more, plus she wouldn't have to bring papers home to grade every night.  It would be much less stressful.

But she needs to give the other school her commitment in the next two weeks.  She doesn't know if Region 11 can interview her and come up with a decision that fast.  It would be a great position for her if she could get it though.

That sounds like a great oppurtunity, even in "Region 11" sounds like some shadowy government agency in a Sci-fi plot.
