LTS
Semin is Russian. As I see it... there is 1 Russian left in the Sabres ranks. I don't think Murray is even answering the phone if Semin's agent calls.
TrueBlueGED
Andy Strickland @andystrickland 17m17 minutes ago It appears Johhny Oduya is staying patient in hope of returning to #blackhawks. Told he turned down significant offer from #sabres Welp. Plan B, anyone?

Told he turned down significant offer from #sabres Welp. Plan B, anyone? This is still a thread? It's been three days since any news on NHL free agency here. The tweet seems to confirm my suspicions that GMTM was looking at Oduya to fill in the top-4 defense hole. Once he realized Oduya wasn't likely to come here, we started getting a lot of the "pursuing a trade" comments.

Samson's Flow
At least we know we are in line for him then if the Hawks don't want him back. Agreed. But by the sounds of it Oduya wants to go back to the Hawks and will give them as much leeway as possible to make it happen.
dudacek
The latest (and final for the summer) from Freidman says the Sabres were definitely in on Oduya, but it's not clear if they still are: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/30-thoughts-players-like-kessel-tough-to-find/ The other tidbit that caught my eye is the Rangers may be dealing with collateral damage from the RoR contract when it comes to signing Derek Stepan: it may create a cap squeeze that forces them to deal Keith Yandle. Guess what team needs a top-4 LHD who can play the PP?

As long as we don't overpay that would be either be the greatest inadvertent/purposeful signing to cause a trade which helps said signer in NHL history Edited July 10, 2015 by thewookie1
LGR4GM
As long as we don't overpay that would be either be the greatest inadvertent/purposeful signing to cause a trade which helps said signer in NHL history That would be amazing. I would guess Jake Mccabe, 2016 2nd and idk would start a trade conversation for Yandle. What the final price would be, hard to gauge. Would probably lose 1 of our RW prospects or maybe someone like Foligno.
nobody
Matt Irwin (formerly SJ Sharks) signs with Boston for 800k. Could have been a solid 3rd D pair guy for the Sabres.
shrader
I was scanning through the summary of free agent signings on TSN and just noticed that Gragnani signed with the Devils last week. How did no one pounce on that one?

We've got about 30 of those now. We need a top four lefty.

Eleven
TM, Git 'er dun. If Oduya signs, and if Lehner is competent, this team should make the playoffs in 2016.
Taro T
If Oduya signs, and if Lehner is competent, this team should make the playoffs in 2016. Not positive of that. LOTS of new parts to gel and lots of road games down the stretch. But they'd definitely be close enough that playoff invoices go out. If the schedule were tilted to having the games more evenly split, I'd agree w/ you. As it is, bring in Oduya, and it'd be a coin flip IMHO. TB would still be better & unless Price misses significant time so would Moe-ray-all. Until Detroit finally misses the playoffs, wouldn't bet against them. Sabres would have to finish ahead of Otters, Swamp Cats and the Patrick's 5th team (or the Patrick's 4th). Absolutely COULD happen and very much looking forward to the possibility. C'mon Timmy. Brawndo
@BrianHedger: Oduya is now "considering a number of options," according to a source. Not sure if waiting for #Blackhawks is one or Stars for that matter. @andystrickland: Free agent Chris Stewart is nearing a one-year deal with the #NHLducks and won't be returning to the #MNwild. Announcement expected soon
