Anything positive with Nylanders game is a good thing for us, he needs it badly.

He has alot of hockey in him, he just need the confidence to get it out there on the ice.

Exactly, well said.  This is all about head space.  The ability to show his strength and continue to push is what he needed with this tournament.  Not necessarily that he needed to be there, but the realization that he has the talent to be above that.  He's one step away, but that step is a big one to jump into the NHL.

Filthy sequence by the Swedes that leads to a Marcus Davidsson goal

I love how he anticipated the play developing back at the blue line.  Kept coming hard and beat the defense to the spot.  This is something our current NHL roster does not do often enough - yet is done to us consistently.

Nice to see from the young kid.

Can definitely see why Murray wanted Nylander - hands that you simply can't teach. There's a reason he's a PP fixture. And he believed that Alex would be able to bulk up - which he still could.

Maybe it's the injury still affecting his game, but he flat out cannot win a battle along the boards. But even with that, his ability to close on an opponent has him regularly killing penalties & playing well in that role.

His low end potential is 4th liner PP, SO (& possibly PK) specialist. Basically a blonde Moulson that can skate.

His top end appears to be a Miro Satan. Basically a guy w/ mad skills that won't/can't be effective in dirty areas.

Be interesting to see what he ends up. And yes, this opinion is based off of all of 3 games watching him in person. :p

Believe the hype.

Really looking forward to seeing him live tomorrow. Believe I'll also get to see him against the Finns. Like what he's shown w/ the Gophers & the 1st 2 w/ the US. Though he seemed to be the high forward that should have been covering for the pinched D on the 1st goal that Woll (sp?) was far more sieve than wall on.

That was one of the best jukes I've seen non McDavid in a while.  WOW.  Last year's draft class is showing a lot better than it got initially hailed.  At least at the top.  With: Pettersson, Hischier, Tolvanen, Glass, Suzuki, and Patrick all doing nice things.  The more you watch Mittelstadt, the more you see dynamic.  This is better all around skill and play than Reinhart has ever shown.  Sorry Reino.

Exactly, (on Nylander) you're never going to have a team full of two way players.  There are going to be times that you develop an all offensive player.  Nylander is only 19 and sometimes players take more time to marinate.  His brother isn't swift in both zones.  Yes, you'd hope to see more.

Right now the coaching staff for Team USA should be finding more time for Middlestadt to be on the ice.  I was amazed at how little I saw him last night.  He made a bad drop pass on one play and had one bad turnover but overall he controls the puck when he's one the ice.  They needed more of that against Slovakia.

His goal was a thing of beauty and that's quite the definition of "My team needs a goal and *I* am going to make it happen."  And then... they completely BLOW their coverage on the GWG from Slovakia.  They were lost... sad.

Absolutely this. I'm Canadian but was more excited to watch the US game last night just to watch middlestadt. Could not believe how little ice time it felt like he got. Did not look up the stats but I kept saying after a commercial break or stoppage why is be not out there. Maybe it's my Sabres rose coloured glasses on but the second half of the game Casey was the best player on the ice.

He will be the guy that takes the pressure off Eichel to perform.  And when he's not trying to carry the whole friggin' team on his back, Eichel will be fine.

I think you mean he'll be the guy that makes Eichel an afterthought. Eichel won't be expendable at that point, he'll be needed to carry Casey's gear and wash his car.

Lord Mittelstadt will carry Buffalo on his back (along with the weight of the universe) and single handedly help us to overcome the rigged system and because Buffalo mantra. So it has been written and passed down through the ages.

I don’t know about that, but Casey has the primary asst on both US goals so far. The kid has great mits.

Edit: make that 3 primary assists on all 3 US goals so far.

3 goals, 3 assists, 3 games - leading the tourney.

Nylander, for the record has 1/3/4 in two games.

Not that we put much stock in such things.

It's nice to see Mittelstadt put half his points so far up against a good team. Excited to see if Nylander can do that coming up.

But who does more pullups?

Certainly snarky... and i posted this elsewhere and perhaps you saw it.. perhaps not.

“Our strength coach noticed right away that his shoulder was a little out of alignment,” coach Don Lucia said. “He got him fixed with manipulation, and [Mittelstadt] was able to do a half-dozen [pull ups] right after that.”
