The site of the old Igloo is right in the heart of the triangle formed by the three rivers. It abuts Duquesne University to the Southeast and the Downtown business district to the Southwest. For years Pittsburgh has tried to figure out how to link Oakland, i.e. Pitt and Carnegie Mellon with the downtown area and clean up the remnants of the Hill District that sits in between. Developing that area in a modern multiuse way that encourages residential and commercial uses would make that very valuable. The Igloo and the parking lots stood in the way for a long time. Drury seems like an odd fit for player development/coaching. I can't find anything in his resume to indicate he has any experience in this realm (captaining NHL teams is a plus of course). Personality-wise, did we ever see him crack a smile or speak above a whisper? His skills — the mental focus, the preparation, the being in the right place at the right time — were uncanny. How does he impart that to others? Obviously, he'll immediately command respect from those kids. But not everyone can prepare like a Drury. He was almost robotic. One did for sure, as his name was chanted during the shootout. Don't think GMs don't notice how this stuff sells. They are not divorced from the marketing side of the game by any means. Gotta agree with the sentiment here. An argument can be made that some of the suits are actively selling the fighting, but there is no doubt that fighting is, at the very least, tolerated on a game by game basis. The punishement for a fight in a game is 5 minutes in the box, then you are welcome to come right back. That a physical altercation where the prime goal is to bash someone else's face in, in the middle of an ice-hockey competition, results in nothing more than a slap on the wrist, to me is unacceptable. In the NFL or NBA, you are getting thrown out of the game if you throw a punch, correct? For me that is the bare minimum punishment that should be enforced. If the goal is to get fighting out of the game completely, more severe punishments may be necessary. Of course some feel this opens up a big can of worms in regards to more liberties being taken by dirty players against skill guys. That could be true, in which case harsher punishments will need to be brought upon those guys, as well. In general though, when it comes to things like this, I don't think two wrongs make a right.
