2013-2014 Roster Projection Thoughts

Without intending to wade into the handedness debate (ewww) upthread, it looks like you have two LWs on the RW (Leino and Foligno). I think that's sorta the problem. Yes, we have no RWs.

Oh, and the older of those two LWs doesn't have a right hip.

I've been coaching and playing hockey a long time...usually changing which wing you play isn't that big of a deal...going from wing to center IS a big deal, mainly because centers usually have to be more defensively responsible.

Can't recall where I saw X post it, but he made a comment not too long ago about Foligno--something like "he's a power forward, sometimes those guys just go cold. it happens."

Well, to that point, it would appear that Sabres Nation's public enemy #1 is at risk of being a healthy scratch.

Updated Lucic post, with Julien saying he might scratch him Friday vs. Penguins http://bigbadblog.weei.com/sports/boston/hockey/bruins/2013/04/18/milan-lucic-wouldnt-blame-claude-julien-for-making-him-a-healthy-scratch/ via @WEEI #Bruins

OK -- I'm updating my optimistic scenario:

LeCavelier-Vanek-Bobby Ryan

Hodgson-Ennis-Leino

Porter-Foligno-Ott

Larsson-Kaleta-Scott/Gerbe

Ehrhoff-Sekera

Myers-New good defenseman

Weber-Pysyk/Ruhwedel

Updated assumptions:

- Ducks will be open to trading Ryan for high-end picks/prospects, plus perhaps Sekera (in which case the D rotation above gets shuffled), due to budget constraints, having just committed to $16MM+ for Perry and Getzlaf.

- TB will be open to trading Vinny due to cap constraints and desire to rid themselves of giant albatross contract. Having just traded for Lindback and Bishop, and needing cap space, I doubt they will want to trade for Miller. Also, Vinny's market value isn't very high right now due to age, declining production and contract -- so I think they will live with high end picks/prospects in return.

(Also -- I think GoDD is right that TP is going to try to swing for the fences again this summer, and Vinny -- a big #1 center with a ton of offensive talent -- makes a lot of sense).

- Vanek will sign an extension to play with those 2 as his linemates

- Neither Griggy nor Armia will be ready for prime time

- Porter will do fine as the #3 center

- Either Pysyk or Ruweedeater, but not both, will hit a sophomore slump but the other will be fine

I wonder what kind of contract Mike Ribeiro will command as a UFA this offseason? He'd make a pretty damned good 1a pivot with Hodgson. At 33 he is a ppg player for Washington this season.

I'm with Drane on this one, they swing for the fences, with so so results. I'm think Ovechkin or Bobby Ryan.

This is what you want, or this is what you think will happen.

Still need another center.

42 will fill the 2nd line slot just fine.

Vanek-Hodgson- Bobby Ryan(or his type)

Foligno-Grigs-Ennis

Flynn-Ott-?

Kaleta-Tropp-Scott

We need to add some talent for the first line and a winger for the 3rd. Get rid of stafford, Gerbe and Leino whether it be picks or trades.

Myers-Ehrhoff

Weber-Sekera

Mcnabb-Sulzer

extras:Pardy-Ruhwedel

We need a big name dman. I would be willing to give up sekera and a prospect to get a big named Dman.

Enroth-bring in a another goalie. I know we have Hackett and Leggio, But I would want a veteran presence behind enroth. I think miller can fetch a number 1 and a roster player. Use miller to bring in a top 6 forward or a top 3 Dman.

Thoughts anyone?? I know we have a lot of draft picks this year and I think they will utilize them to try and move up in the draft, So I see Darcy trying to trade players for players.

Ryan isn't great in the playoffs (15 points in 26 games). I still don't get why people like him so much. He is a 60 point player who is lazy and doesn't play great defence

Foligno proved he isn't ready for the second line

Leino played well this year and we really need top-6 forwards

Grigs on the second line isn't great, but i'm not sure we have a choice

What about Pysyk?

Hackett must make it to the NHL soon right? He is ready for a back-up role and you have to think he was brought in for a reason

We need a 4th line centre

I like Kaleta and Tropp on the 4th line, but aren't they both RW?

Side note. Is Stafford our only real RW now? We also have Tropp and Kaleta, but both are 4th liners

Leino, Ennis, Foligno, Vanek, Ott are all LW if they play wing

I hate that roster. That is a playing-for-last-place roster.

If Chicago loses the current series against Detroit, what about a trade for Kane. Thia is only a topic, if bad goaltending is the root cause for a Chicago loss against Detroit.

We give them Miller and Vanek for Kane and X and retain some salary. Realistic?

What about Miller, Ennis and a pick for Kane and retain some salary?

I think you are over valuing Kane.

It depends on the X. But Kane is young and his contacts runs for i think three more years.

But maybe you are right. What do you think he is worth?

If its miller + vanek for Kane + 2014 1st or saad.

We are rebuilding , not dumping our biggest assets

It was interesting to hear Darcy talk about how he would think Makarov would challenge for a job in Rochester and it sounded like he expects him to make it.

Also interesting is hearing him talk about Enroth, his growth and consistency as well as his ability to be a #1 nhl netminder.

Brian Duff:

"Do you see him now as someone who is ready to be a fulltime #1 NHL netminder?"

Darcy Regier:

"I think he can be, I really do believe he has the ability to be a #1 goaltender in the NHL."

So if Miller and Enroth get the same money (hypothetically) you'd go with Enroth?
