The Vancouver Canucks face the Buffalo Sabres with both teams heading in opposite directions this season. The Canucks have a 28-11-3 record and with four wins in a row, they have the best record in the Pacific Division. The Sabres have an 18-20-4 record and are near the bottom of the Atlantic Division. The Canucks look to leap to the top of the Western Conference while the Sabres hope to rebound in the Eastern Conference and the upcoming game should be a good one as a result.

The Canucks are having a great season with their offense looking like the league's best, scoring 3.90 goals per game with 21 goals in the last four games. J.T. Miller, Elias Pettersson, and Brock Boeser have scored 68 goals and 83 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense is also great. Ilya Mikheyev, Dakota Joshua, and Conor Garland have combined for 26 goals and 36 assists while defensemen Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek have added 14 goals and 73 assists from the point to put the offense over the top.

The offense has been great but the defense has also stepped up, allowing only 2.60 goals per game. While Hughes and Hronek have combined for 7.3 defensive point shares and 74 blocked shots, Tyler Myers, Ian Cole, and Carson Soucy have combined for 4.6 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. Additionally, goaltender Thatcher Demko has been great with a .916 save percentage and a 2.55 goals-against average on 908 shots with 6.5 goals saved above average.

Sabres have not won 4 of 5 all season. Can’t let myself think they will win, but as long they don’t lay down like against Columbus, New Jersey, et al.  UPL has won three in a row, so I assume he gets the start. Thatcher is taking two out every three starts, and they have Columbus next, so hopefully we see him this afternoon.  A true test.  A 1pm start here on the west coast. Not ideal, but…might work.

All I wanted was a 3 game winning streak

The Kraken being the team specifically designed/coached to defeat offense-only teams like the Sabres and riding a 6 (now 8-game winning streak)... the Sabres streak was going to be a very tough ask.

Now, another red-hot PNW team in the Canucks.

Expecting another sparse crowd, with many cheering for Vancouver.

The Sabres season is on the brink.  They must start a home winning streak right now.

The gloom and doom here is really prevalent - there are threads about Skinner not being good, Tage not good, Dahlin not good.   Frustration of the fan base is really setting in.

Understandable, as we are on the cusp of falling out of the race unless we can strings some W’s.  Vancouver, is playing well and is another team that has past us this year.

The empty seats will be little different from the norm. Losing does that.

Not sure how many people show up, but if they get down by 2-3 goals early, that place might be as empty as we have seen in years after that.

Why would you expect many fans in the arena cheering for Vancouver? I can understand a large contingent of fans in our arena cheering for Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, NY and Boston due to proximity, students from respective areas and transplants. But why Vancouver?

It's inarguable that much more was expected from this team causing so much hostility and resentment. As you seem to be alluding to: this has not become a pleasant place to visit. That's sad and disappointing.
