The voodoo of picking goalies in the first round.

You would think that the travails of the last "sure thing" goaltender of a class, Malcolm Subban, would finally ward off GMs.

I still don’t exactly know what Babs did (or didn’t do). At best, he just asked to see players’ cellphone as a show and tell? At worst, he demanded to see players’ cellphone? Kind of a dick thing to do, but is this a fireable offense?

Its a matter of privacy violation and would be considered a major no-no in nearly any business

At best it was awkward AF.  At worst it might have been a ploy for him to see personal stuff he has no right to.
Dude might just not have the personality to be a coach anymore.  Good leadership requires trust.  This doesn’t seem like a good way to develop trust with grown ass people.

Mike Commodore was saying he is a predator and everything he does is intimidation.

He made the point of if he was at development camp and he called a young prospect into the office and tells him to turn on Airplay to put his phone info up on the screen in the office.

What if the player is gay but hasn’t come out to his family or friends yet but suddenly his pics with his boyfriend are up on the coach’s screen in his office. Really awkward stuff.

I have a strong feeling the phone stuff was the tip of the iceberg and there are other factors at play here as well.

Good riddance to the guy. No one from any of his teams has ever had anything nice to say about him.

I would imagine it would really depend on how the question was asked, etc. right?  If I explained what I was doing and allowed people to volunteer to share photos it would be different then demanding it.

And frankly.. I said it early on.  If anyone was to demand I share my phone I would tell them to F off.  Feel free to fire me and let's see where that goes in the courts.

As I said above.. "Turn on Airplay and share your phone" the answer is No.. we're done here.  Every person needs to have that willpower.

As for the bolded, this isn't so much a Babcock thing.. but I would advise people that if there is information you are not comfortable sharing with the public your phone is one of the last places it should be.  I know people view them as "personal" devices.. but they aren't.. not even close.

Building on this.

Remember that the internet started as ARPAnet, which was built by the Defense Department.  The old DoD internet nodes are still there, so you should assume that everything you put on your phone in particular and online in general is available for data mining by government agencies.  That does not even include the often embarrassing lack of security in web apps, not to mention hackers of all types can break into virtually anything.

This is one is little odd to me.

Average middle six winger for backup goalie of relatively equal value, Canucks add a 3rd because the Habs taking on $1.4 in salary?

Pearson has fallen off a bit and now has a serious hand/wrist issue that Vancouver botched

I honestly think the players don’t really matter here.

They might play, but this trade is basically $1.4 in cap space for a 3rd rounder.

It's the Year of the Rat in Beantown for sure.

It was the logical choice though. As much as he's hated league wide, he's been a leader in that locker room for years. He's going to oversee the cultural transition as the team shifts over the next 2 years. Falls (for a while at least) with that shift, but an inevitable shift all the same. After that it's probably McAvoy.

Stamkos does not seem happy , wanted a deal done to exten him in Tampa already, but said no talks are happening so far.  Bit weird to treat your franchise player like this.

TB is over the cap aren't they? Stamkos is 33 years old. A major teardown and rebuild is happening sooner than later. I think TB just wants to keep this team together for 1 more run at it. Extensions for Stamkos would have to come at a team discount

First of all, let me say that this is not a "go sign" Kane post.  I'm just wondering why an american who has only played in two american cities is rehabbing in Toronto.  Are they going to magically add him to the roster too once the winter rolls around?

My guess would be that his surgery's doctor or specialist might be up there.
