A 7th round draft pick who has done nothing but improve since being plucked out of Sweden in 2014, Olofsson has carved a reputation based around his elite shot.

He's perceived largely as a power play specialist, scoring about 40 per cent of his points and nearly 50 per cent of his goals with the man advantage. Despite that he's put up good possession numbers on a bad Sabres team, with a career Corsi of 56%

His career NHL scoring totals equate to 25 goals and 32 assists over an 82-game season.

Unlike a lot of Sabres, Olofsson did not increase his production after Ralph Krueger was fired. He finished the season with 11 points, — only 4 of them goals — over his final 25 games.

What do you expect from Olofsson this season.

I like him and think he'll have a good year (maybe not a career year).  I would try him on a different line away from Skinner.  I would like to see him with R2 and/or Asplund for a few games to see if that can help with his 5 on 5 scoring.  I understand the criticism of Olofsson being a power play specialist but he has shown the ability to score and power play goals count just as much as 5 on 5 goals.  We will need his goals this season regardless.

Unless someone can replace him then yes.  He is not a replacement level player, so until Quinn, or someone does replace him then yes I want him signed, but I would not do more than 3 years.

The question is concerning this year.

3 years is acceptable  Depending on cost but I believe hes probably going to want a long term deal

I'd like to do that because I like Vic.

I think he sees the game well and gives an honest effort despite that lack of edge and strength.

I just don't think his skill set can be maximized on this team because he needs someone to create space and get him the puck.

The issues people (falsely, IMO) blamed for Skinner's fall will be real in Victor's case.

Olofsson has had a rough few games without scoring and we do not know how the injury impacted that. With all that said, he needs a new contract, do you want to sign him to a new deal and keep him or trade him at the deadline for what would probably be a decent return (think lesser Toffoli). He will be a 26yr old RFA at seasons end with arbitration rights. If you want to keep him, what is he worth? If you want to trade him, what would you accept?

Find out what His Contract Demands are and if prohibitive sign Him to a One Year Deal and move Him at the TDL in 2023

I wouldn't trade him for a first. We have three first round picks this year, and I believe two first round picks ??? the next year. In addition, we have multiple second and third round picks for the next couple of years. Assuming that his contract demand is reasonable, and if it appears that he has regained his scoring form, it would make no sense to give up a player that we developed in our system. 

What this team needs are additions and not subtractions to its talent base. There needs to be a commitment to win sooner rather than later. You do it with players on hand rather with future assets.

Buffalo 2022 1st

Vegas 2022 1st

Florida 2022 1st

Buffalo 2022 2nd and 3rd

Buffalo 2023 1st and 2nd

Philly 2023 2nd

Vegas 2023 2nd

no 3rd round pick in 2023

Of course, you can take those multiple picks and make them better.  It might not always work but maybe take a pick that is in the late 20's in the first round, package that with a 2nd..and move up to the late teens or early 20s. Then take that pick and package it with another mid-first rounder, and move up to the 10th-15th pick.  You have a find a team willing to move, but if you are pretty full of prospects and another team is picking there and wants more quality prospects, then go for it.

If you are going to trade anyone, you get the best thing you can for him, even if that is a pick. Doesn't mean you have to use that pick in the draft. If it has value, it can be moved for a player in the offseason that might not be available now..or moved with other picks to turn them into a better pick.
