Ryan O'Reilly and Jamie McGinn traded to Sabres

But the value given up could have been retained if the Sabres waited until FA. This rush to stock the big club roster has drained the assets without fully restocking the system. That still may happen via trades, I.e Gus or Samson, but we did not address right wing, opened another hole on d and are loaded at center. We will have to pay Kane in 2 years and Risto and Gus. ROR is a nice player but a luxury not a necessity. I am glad he is generating excitement for many here, but he really doesn't do much for me. The key will be Eichel.

Justin Bailey, Hudson Fasching, and Evan Rodrigues beg to differ.

GO SABRES!!!

I don't get this worry about the prospect pool.

Fasching, carrier, Baptiste, Bailey, Cornel, Karabacek, McCabe, Ullmark are all still coming, as well as the second rounder this year.

That's not counting Reinhart and Eichel, who probably make our prospect pool the best in the league on their own.

We have two extra thirds next year and an extra second the year after.

And we have all our regular high picks going forward.

Our prospect pool is OK and we have the youngest core in the league.

There is no issue here.

I really didn't want to lose Zadorov, but after thinking about it for a bit, we hadn't had big tough defensemen that kicked ass in so long, we were getting Risto and Z and imagined them as a killer pairing for a decade. But we traded Myers for Bogosion who is a big strong killer. So the idea of Zadorov is lessened quite a bit. We have two big killers. We still have Weber and Gorges who are pretty tough. If we still had Myers, losing Zadorov would have pissed me off a lot more.

Rodriguez is a career AHLer at best. Fasching and Bailey are decent prospects, granted. But we added a lot of left handed forwards with a propensity to play center. I am glad people are happy. I guess I am with D4rk on this.

The only cause for concern is that we're suddenly thin on defense.  McCabe is the only D out of the guys you mentioned and he's 21 and had concussion problems last year.

We'll need another trade or two to address that.

OK, how about Nick Baptiste, a right winger I forgot?

This right here, this is the key. Know why we don't need to worry about our prospect pool? Because our core is under 24, with the most important pieces 4+ years under.

Agreed. Because our core is so young, we basically have 2-3 years to restock whatever prospect gaps we may have. It's not like we're LA or Boston
