TBH, I don't think the Sabres ever really looked "outmatched" last night. They had plenty of chances in which Halak rose to the occasion.

I think the giveaways is the best indication. Housley said it too- some very poor decisions with the puck.

We actually had moments where we looked really good- the first half of the first period it looked like a whole new team, in a good way. There were some mental breakdowns, it seems, and then a feeling of deflated-ness after Boston put a few in the net.

Interesting post.  I don't disagree that the Sabres didn't look out-matched so much as they looked ill-prepared.  The beginning of the first and then there were several solid minutes in the latter half of the second where, I thought, they looked solid.

As I posted earlier, I really think you can summarize the game as: Eichel wasn't ready, KO is over-rated, and coaching was still on vacation.  There were several good things going on and some aspects of their game were clearly improved.

I think the disappointment in the leadership group, under-rating the Bruins skill/experience, and the score have combined to make it probably seem worse than it was.

maybe it's just my mood - but i just found this post to be odd, absurd, and delightful.

also: i cannot imagine loving any food enough to eat it even though it tends to make my throat close up.

Loved the crab post. Nice break in the monotony.

Though not exactly the same, I feel his pain. I’ve become lactose intolerant over the last couple years. Anything with cheese absolutely kills me stomach, sometimes to the point of being barely able to move. Do you know what foods have cheese in/on them??? Some of the best ones!!!

I didn't expect to beat the Bruins. Not sure why everyone forgot that we were dead furken last the season before this. Huge changeover this offseason and it will take some time to come together. The Canucks meanwhile, who many are predicting a bottom 3 finish potted 5 on Calgary in their home opener. Their fans were practically planning the parade route after that win. I liked our fans response better. A little more realistic. Boo them off the ice. Come on peeps I hate the loss as much as y'all but get behind these guys. We will see improvement this season. It won't happen out of the gate.

On a side note, remember when I was the contrarian for not believing that HCDDB was the devil and that we just didn't have that much talent? Those were fun times.

I really didn't think that we looked that bad last night. A half brand new team made up of infants going up against one of the teams slated to compete for the SC with arguably the best #1 line in hockey.

This place is going to be hilarious tomorrow night when we end up with a 1-1 record.

Most fans view sports, in this case hockey, as a series of 82 one-game seasons.

I'm not sure it's arguable.

In 2013, before it had Pastrnak, Crosby didn't score a point in that playoff series. They smothered Matthews last year too. And of course, that stat I love quoting from last year.

It does seem like a glaring error for Wowie to play Eichel's line against them. What line should we have played against them, though?

So in general I don't care maybe if Eichel plays against top centers. And other teams are going to match their defensive lines (in this case the Bergeron line) against him. But when we have last change and that line is as smothering as it is, AND we choose to put our 3 major offensive pieces together, it puts too much pressure on everyone else to score and removes our only consistent offensive generators, so I think it was pretty dumb. And the line scored all four goals, right? So you can really throw any line you want against them, and you probably wouldn't get a worse defensive result, but you'd also have a little more space and freedom for your offensive line.

Not sure how so many can have the blinders still on. You are seeing a Phil Housley coached club. While I believe there is more talent here than some claim. Phil is the reason the structure on ice is so poor. How many times do you see the same thing yet expect it to suddenly change soon? It is exactly what we've been seeing the past 2 seasons. Yes there is more speed and quick passing, but essentially, it looks exactly the same to me and remember, it's no longer preseason. You are going up against the starting lineups of better coached clubs so I expect identical results to last years team as long as Phil remains coach.

So 1 game out of 82 with 8 new players, and the season's done?

No blinders, but my god.............. Don't be so dramatic.

I can't blame anyone for their reaction. A long off-season culminating in a thorough ass kicking by a hated rival. None of our new toys we're as shiny as they were on the shelf. We all felt like iron crotch's avatar.
