The Jack Eichel thread.

If there's anything about Eichel I like more than that of McDavid is size and grit coupled with his skill. Where I'd of worried about McDavid being blind sided early in the season, Eichel looks like he'd welcome other teams to try.

Plus if we worry about size at any time, just imagine Kane-Eichel-Girgs, all of them are cut from the same cloth in terms of playing style, play hard 100% of the time. The skill varies, but I'd take a guess in a couple years those 3 potentially could be the scariest 1st line you could play against. If they aren't scoring on you, they're introducing you to the boards.

We definitely seem to be built in a western conference mold, where Edmonton looks like an eastern team, interesting dynamic.

The only thing that makes me sad about today is that it might have lost some fans in Arizona their hockey team. In return for another pick for Edmonton which probably gives their garbage front office a decade long leash when they should be out the door now.

This already looks bad for the league and, in a certain way, Edmonton ("where number 1 picks go to languish").

McDavid's hyped skills will be wasted in Edmonton, and that will haunt the league until its fixed somehow.

They would have been equally wasted in AZ or Carolina.

I'm only bummed that of all teams, Edmonton had to win the lottery. With all the blue chip talent they have drafted in recent years, they still stink. What a waste! Columbus would have been nice. But oh well.

Where you see frustration, I see opportunity.  They will have 5 top draft picks on offense and not enough defense.  The Sabres are reasonably okay on defense and probably have one or two quality d-men they could package in a trade for one of those offensive guys.  Let them keep Eichel, but maybe pry RNH away from them.

yup stated those facts on hf boards and here sometimes already, also seems to have a wicked shot.

I can't wait to play Edmonton in the SCF and run their puny forwards over with Jack and Kane and Bogo.

Until they fire their entire upper management, they'll be stuck in the snow drifts.  MacTavish is more likely to sink his head into the sand in the Sahara before he is to build a quality NHL product.  The man is methodically idiotic.  I love individual players like Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, Darnell Nurse, and RNH, but you cannot build a team with names.  It is not fantasy hockey.

Hopefully he thanks BU, but tells them he is adding the FFALO to his 2015 plans,

I see what you did there.   :flirt:

Also, I really hope Jack lives in the city, like Millsie and Jaypeezie.

EICH FOR RESIDENT! EICH FOR RESIDENT! EICH FOR RESIDENT! EICH FOR RESIDENT!

Funny thing is with the Nurse draft, I laughed so hard because Nurse was clearly a level below Ristolainen.  Edm is just dumb.  They will take McDavid and surround him with fluff and pray for miracle. We can take Jack, surround him with talent and just watch the magic.

Really?

Oilers should take Nurse if they are smart but they may take Nichushkin. If they do, I am all for Horvat at #8... you heard me say it.

Uhg I guess I will hang out until we pick. I am sure we get a good player I should be happy.

So, you were laughing at them for being dumb because they'd just done something you thought would be the smart thing to do?

And, before telling us how Risto was your boy all along, you might want to read this. (Pretty sure this was you as well.)

There it is Ristolainen. No NIchushkin... kinda shocked

Just my opinion, but digging up old posts is a bit much. Trying a little too hard to make a point or embarrass someone. It's got that political "gotcha" feel to it.

It's extremely useful. Claiming you felt one way when it seems you felt another also is trying too hard to make a point. Liger has a bit of that going on.

Nurse was clearly ahead of Risto at the time of the draft (awaits somebody pulling a post where I said Risto is better than Nurse :D )

I thought Risto was part of the "Magnificent Seven" that year and Nurse was 8th in the pre-draft rankings.  Can't really remember.

Risto wasn't my boy at all.  I wanted the forward.  Devine really wanted Ristolainen.

But yes I laughed a little at Edmonton because Nurse was their pick.  Edm was never going to draft Risto.  Thinking back I wonder what my mock draft that year had the Oilers taking?

Wanna know when I really laughed at Edm when they passed on Bennett to take Draisaitl because Draisaitl was bigger.  They really can't help themselves.

Barkov, Drouin, MacKinnon, Jones, Monahan, Lindholm, and either Risto or Nichushkin depending on the source. I can't remember if I included Valeri or Risto but Nurse wasn't in there.

FWIW. Someone said on GR recently, Paul Hamilton maybe, that Sabres were elated when Oil took Nurse and Sabres also had Risto ahead of Seth Jones on their board.

Yea I heard that. I remember Kevin Devine was big into Ristolainen before during and after that draft.  So far Devine has been right.
