Things that are AWESOME...

On Tuesday, I was driving west on the 290 ("the 290," right?) heading for exit 2 when I passed a car. I glanced over and noticed an older woman with one hand on the wheel, looking down, looking back up, looking down, pretty obviously texting. Then I noticed her habit. A texting nun!

Yesterday I was walking on a trail back home and saw a chipmunk up ahead, holding and eating something. When I got practically right next to it, I could see that it was eating a PayDay candy bar. The wrapper was even pulled down. Now that right there is a chipmunk fantasy. "One of these days, Herb, I'm telling you, someone is going to drop a PayDay! The chocolate, the nougat, the nuts. The nuts, Herb, the nuts!"

Tonight I was on the trail again and folks were stopping to look down at a dog on a leash. No surprise. People love dogs. Except this dog was a cat. A cat named Rolo (another candy by the way). Rolo is 11 months old and has been harnessed and walked since he was a kitten. He was doing fine. He's not spooked by dogs, his owner says.

I can't wait until tomorrow. Unicorn? Sasquatch? Ville Leino scoring? It seems like anything is possible this week. Is the universe telling me something?

So, my Memorial Day has been pretty unforgettable, and here's why:

I work at a place with a few buddies of mine from high school, and we all happened to be working the same shift today. Well it's a holiday so it was real slow, and so we just shot the sh!t and played on our phones most of the time. Well, after awhile my one buddy starts laughing to himself, and tells me I have to see something. He gives me a website address, I go to it on my phone, and my reactions were pretty much as follows.

:o :w00t: :clapping: B-)

Turns out, we found out the other friend's we were working with ex-gf just became a pornstar. The guy who showed me had gotten a tip from our mutual friend about it and decided to check it out. We ended up telling the other guy about it, and we're still in shock...and joy. I mean, come on, turns out a girl from my high school ended up being a pornstar, and she's someone we still see out every now and then.

Happy Memorial Day everyone :D

I think my dog came from old money in a prior life. I'm sitting on the deck on a gorgeous Memorial Day evening smoking a Rocky Patel vintage 1999 and drinking a glass of Larceny bourbon. The dog is begging me to blow in his face., He is licking at the smoke coming off my stick. Wants me to share the goodness. He does this every time I light up a cigar or pour a glass of whiskey.

How has dill pickle flavored Lay's potato chips not been mentioned yet? Frigging addicting. I swear the full sized bag lists single serving size as "the whole damned bag, stupid".

I'd rather stick with the standard salt and vinegar, but they are pretty good though. The thing that bugs me though is that Lays has apparently phased out the $0.99 bags of chips in favor of a larger $1.49 bag. Let's just feed right into the obesity problem.

I had a wedding to attend in Binghamton, NY this past weekend so the wife and I decided to make a short vacation without the kids out of it. We stopped in DC on Thursday night, then drove to Gettysburg on Friday morning to spend half a day touring the battlefield. On the recommendation of a friend I called ahead earlier in the week and reserved a licensed battlefield guide to take my wife and I on the tour. I had been to Gettysburg before and have read a few books on the battle, but nothing compares to going on a guided tour. At the end of the tour as we stood at the center of the Union line looking across the field towards the advance of Pickett's charge, our guide had my wife in tears as he described the scene that day. If your travels take you anywhere near Gettysburg I highly recommend taking the time to tour the battlefield with a licensed guide.

We were also very fortunate to be paired with a guide who delivers a unique perspective on the battle through the words of his ancestor who fought there. He and his great, great-grandfather were featured on a CBS news story last year for the 150th anniversary of the battle.

Don't worry, they'll slowly reduce the size of the $1.49 bag until it's down to the .99 bag size.

Speaking of Salt and Vinegar, my sister-in-law loves them and claims Herr's (based in SE PA) has the best she's had, to the point of requesting we bring them up when we visit. If you see them, try them!

Her site got taken down and has 403'd (forbidden access) to anyone in my town's IP. The name she goes by is Cherry Scott though

It seems pretty unlikely that an ISP would block a range of IPs like that, but not impossible I guess. I'm trying to remember the stage name of the girl from my HS that is now a porn star, but I can't. I can barely tell it's her with all the work that's been done.

Local online new blog for my town reported this AM that a black bear was spotted on my street early this morning. The reported sighting was 3 houses away.

Yeesh. When I let the dog out this morning at 5am I just opened the patio door and shut it behind him. Never looked to see if he might have company in the back yard. :o
