Terry Pegula buying the Buffalo Sabres discussion

when it comes to fantasy material, you can't do better than jennifer aniston at the peak of her rachel power.
Perhaps you never saw Heather Graham in Boogie Nights?

i have not seen that movie. but a google image search doesn't suggest to me that ms. graham doing the disco-rollergirl-porn thing would rival the m@sturbatory power of aniston's rachel. as to the latter, the appeal was a function of so many different things -- not just that she was sufficiently smokin', it was that her character both looked and acted "real" and was linked to the show's geek. very much the girl next door thing going on.

OK. I'll save this one for an offseason poll.

Those thinking Pegula is gonna come in and fire Darcy, buy out players in the off-season and send crazy offers at RFA may have something else coming at them....

Per Pierre LeBrun-

On the Sabres front, Pegula has agreed to buy the team for $189 million ($175 million in cash and $14 million in assumed liabilities). It's good news for Sabres fans because the dude has deep pockets (he's worth around $4.7 billion). But I was also told yesterday it doesn't mean he's going to spend to the cap every year. He's rich because he's made smart business decisions in his life. Buffalo remains a small market no matter who owns the team. Still, I think there will be less penny-pinching with him on board. That's not to throw Tom Golisano (current owner) and Larry Quinn (Quinn's managing partner and minority owner) under the bus, though. Without their painstaking efforts, there would be no hockey team in Buffalo today. They saved the franchise, and people in Western New York should not forget that.

Regier, by the way, confirmed that he did indeed sign a two-year contract extension in October. What does it all mean for Pegula? From what I'm told, his intentions are not to come in once the sale is finalized and clean house right away. He has to integrate himself with the franchise and get to know his people. If he does decide to change management, I would think it would happen after the season is over.

That link is worth reading, it's pretty much a roundtable discussion between Lebrun and Scott Burnside about NJ and Sabres ownership.

The bubble bursts so soon.

PTR

He will spend to the cap. The only reason you don't year 1 is because you have so much free space in transition that there aren't enough quality additions to be made all at once.

You don't grow up as a kid wanting a Ferrari, make $3 billion, get said Ferrari, then drive it 55 MPH on the 33.

Show me where Golisano dumped $88 million into a mediocre college program in a niche sport.

I also take with a grain of salt parting shots that deify OSP/LQ.

The BS is really piling up now:

1. Tom Golisano will announce Thursday he's selling the Buffalo Sabres. New owner Terry Pegula plans to retain GM Darcy Regier and head coach Lindy Ruff. (There was at least one team eying Ruff for next season.) One of Pegula's close advisors is former Penguins CEO Ken Sawyer, which is interesting, because there are rumblings Pittsburgh's ex-GM, Craig Patrick, will be involved in some capacity.

Regier has spent close to the cap and has nothing to show for it. Which is why he will be fired. If not, I hope Pegula is prepared for the backlash.

By nothing you mean a Stanley Cup.

Just for perspective....During Regiers tenure there have been only 2 Stanley cup appearances from the division.

Ottawa and Buffalo

That's for sure.

"rumblings" and "some capacity" sound like the kind of statements one of these "analysts" would make when they don't have a clue.

Wow. Sawyer is very popular in the hockey ranks. He is credited to being the main guy who kept the Pens stay in Pittsburgh and was a major force which got them the arena. While Mario put his face on the team, and other investors put their money to work, they hired Sawyer to do everything in the hockey operations. He fired Patrick to hire Ray Shero. Interesting if Patrick would come and work with him again?

Ottawa and Buffalo

No Stanley Cups and 3 playoff appearances in 8 years.

I couldn't care less what rest of the divisions Stanley Cup appearances total. It doesn't add any "perspective."
