It’s ridiculous to have these guys fly all the way to the west coast just for one game. They could have given Kuntar another game then make the move when they get home.

You are forgetting about the genius we have running the franchise.

Maybe they were smart enough to keep him with the team and only sending him down on paper

Probably has nothing to do with it but Ruff was upset Östlund was sent down. Maybe this is a sign Adams is done and Ruff has the power.

But if Tuch is good to go, the Sabres are probably better off shipping Kuntar back.

I think he may have an NHL future, but nothing more than a bottom 6 guy.

Oh come on, they gave him a rookie lap and then 5 full minutes of ice time. 

I hope the guy at least got a good meal in Van. They do have some decent restaurants. It's a nice city to visit.

I honestly think that was a favor from GMKA to the (local) family. Adams knows he's on his way out. Two-way contract gets him a game and it doesn't cost much if anything. Kind of classy, actually.

That’s more ice time than Savoie got.

Oh sure, Östlund showed he can play and is a probable NHLer. He's better than Quinn imo. I just don't see the point of flying Kuntar in across country for 5 minutes of one game against a bottom feeder team. If it was in Buffalo and he just drove in from Rochester sure, why not. But this was silly.

And Östlund had to play a game in Rochester before he could be called back up. So someone else had to fill that one game hole. It’s a little odd that they’d add a contract just to do that.

Isn't Kuntar leading the team in goals?  Actually believe that calling him up to the big team for a cup of coffee is a good thing.  They were barred from returning Östlund to the parent club until he'd played in a game and the braintrust decided that Kuntar was the most deserving of the F's that remained.

The message of "work hard, get results, and when an opportunity arises, you'll get rewarded" gets reinforced a heck of a lot more by sending him up than by sending up somebody like Wahlberg who isn't having as good of a season.  (Haven't been watching much of the Amerks; if Wahlberg's picked his play up recently, then, well, nevermind, but you still get the point.)

And, Östlund has played well in Buffalo and is who Ruff wants in the lineup.  He's pencilled into the top 6 for tomorrow night.  So, once he became available again, they made the roster move to play him in the top 6 rather than Kuntar or even worse Greenway or Quinn.
