What's Alex Nylander been up to, you ask?

He's had a very productive season this year for Pittsburgh's AHL team, with 50 pts in 54 games.  He's only had 3 NHL games, and in the most recent of those, this happened:

That he can't get on the ice for a team desperate for forwards says a lot. Enjoy Wilkes Barre, Alex.

Evidently, people are unaware that most goaltenders underperform after being traded mid-season.

And some goalies, like the current version of Murray, merely underperform.  ;)

Dubas must think his job is finally on the line because he traded for at least 6 new guys into his top 18.  Am hoping that that much change mucks up the chemistry they'd built up throughout the season.  On paper, all the trades are bringing them something they need  (strong defensive play and a physicality to their games) but swapping out 1/3 of the lineup is a lot of reshuffling and with only 1/3 of a season to make it all work, can see where it could blow up in his face.  (Don't believe that's merely wishful thinking, though it may be.)

I think this is silly and sort of fun, but I'm really glad it's happening to a Caps-Rangers game. If it were a Sabres game being replaced by this however, I'd be rather put out.

I showed my wife and kids and they actually watched for a few minutes and said the action was easier to follow because it had the names.

???

ESPN and ABC/Disney+ whatever conglomerate used motion capture to turn tonight's Rangers-Capitals game into an animated TV show. Gary Bettman had a phone conversation with the cartoons, Kevin Weekes did play-by-play and appeared to be having fun with it. I made it through the first 5 minutes or so and I turned on the real game via ESPN+ a bit after the game started...  they actually did a pretty good job with the players and how the puck moved around with their sticks and such and it was only about 30 seconds behind the real game. Occasionally you'd get a "BOOM!" on screen when someone threw a check or hit the boards.

But it was bizarre.

Thanks.

Figured out what you were referring to after posting because in the ESPN game they were talking about the animated one a few times.  Recorded it to check it out.  Not positive that will actually get watched, but it might.
