Vegas impo is a house built on sand. I get trying to win in your window but the NYR proved gutting your pool for years to get big names doesn't magically work.

^ This, I’ve been saying this for years. I think Vegas would have been okay with their 5 year plan if they didn’t trade a lot of draft picks and then the Pacioretty deal which was brutal. Plus here in Vegas the dumping of Fleury was the downfall. Future hall of famer who loved Vegas and he was the fan favorite here. Ex GM McPhee and McKimmon have done a great job of ***** up this team with all these big contracts and brutal trades.

Who makes the playoffs 1st ?  Jack or the Sabres.

Maybe the cap goes up to $100M next season and they are fine.  Otherwise, this suddenly becomes a legitimate question.

On the plus side for Vegas, if Lehner goes to LTIR, it would allow them to acquire a goalie OR activate D Alec Martinez if he gets healthy enough. Not likely both. Or... if they can move $4M at the trade deadline they could get a cheap goalie and activate Stone from LTIR down the stretch.

There's still the escrow for the players to pay off for the giant loans the league took out. The cap will not go up appreciatively until that's settled.

How long before Jack wants out ?

If they miss the playoffs... and the fans blame him and his cap # and uninspiring play and how he ruined their feel-good expansion team with his body language...  this summer before his NMC kicks in.

I’m not being funny: Aren’t the Rangers good this season? (I just checked — they’re a playoff team.) Maybe you’re referring to another period of time?

No the Rangers aren't good, they are riding incredible goaltending.

I understand what you mean, but the wins still count and the goalie is part of the team.

Main point though:  you described a Rangers team gutting it’s prospect pool to acquire big names.  The current rangers team has not done that, so I think it’s reasonable to wonder what Rangers teams you were talking about.

Most of the last decade has involved the Rangers trading picks or overpaying top ufas. That was my only point, not sure why we're getting in the weeds on this.

Yes, wins still count but the Rangers are not good. Their goaltending is the holding pin holding that ship together.
