Keep hearing and reading where the sabres are very interested in kevin Shattenkirk. Obviously his asking price will be off the charts, and I have no idea how we can (could) sign him with Moulson, Bogo, Gorges and Ennis all on the books making huge money between them. No question he woul dbe a key acquistion but the cost seems to be too high for us. What do you think?

I think 1 or 2 of those contracts won't be in their current capacity come September, traded, bought out, or buried in the minors.

I would say it's contingent on Bogosian being moved.  I don't see enough spots.  As he's a righty, and really a one trick pony PP specialist.  He'll use Buffalo for leverage and go to NYR.  Who just moved a bunch of cap.

Larry Brooks who covers the Rags for the New York Post mentioned in an article that the Rangers do not appear to be interested in Shattenkirk as they got hamstrung by Girardi and Stephan's Contracts recently.

Not sure if this is his opinion or info from a source

I have mixed feelings about this. I think his contract would be too expensive for his production, but on the other hand he fits Housley's System very well.

Botterill did say this at his Presser per Tom Martin

Doesn't anticipate making a "big bang" but will try to find good value and add depth.

That doesn't sound like they will be in the Shattenkirk Hunt

Somebody else mentioned in some other thread: Shattenkirk is good.  Shattenkirk under Housely is better.

Plus, at noon on July 1, who is the Sabres' threshold replacement player?  Falk?

One of the things I don't like is his usage: he's been sheltered, which either says his past performance could be situation-dependent or he's not trustworthy in his own end.

when I think of signing shattenkirk the first thing that comes to mind is Christian Ehrhoff.  Probably not fair, but that is my reaction.

You have interesting instincts. That may be a good comparison.

I'm not a great fan but why would we want a player who plays defense that scored 56 points last year and has averaged almost 43 points a season for the past 7 years and we have a coach who was a offensive defensive man??? How many forwards did we have that scored more, 1 maybe??? What does that say about our forward group if this guy can't play for us???
