What are you eating (or drinking)?

Tons... I make it in a 9 x 13" pan, which is an awful lot for one person.  I left out enough for this week and froze the other 2/3 for later!

Great!!

That is just enough (the whole 9 x 13 would be better, but ...) for me and my wife.

I'm calling FedEx right now!!

Damn. Now I have to remember what the brand was we always had. The funny thing was, they always preceded the season a bit, like a harbinger of the holidays. My mum made homemade Christmas cookies, but before we had those, we had these.. Like, late November. Back in the day when Christmas didn't start in late August.

I saw them on the shelves a few weeks ago. My mom and my aunt bought some for me. Official Christmas cookies got baked last weekend/this weekend.

I always remembered eating these at the grandparents. My parents would drop us kids off to go Christmas shopping and these would already be in the cookie jar in the lazy susan.

I just ate scorpion, lizard, and pigeon in Beijing.... I also was given ducks head at dinner with my Peking duck and proceeded to pull the brain out and eat that too.... All was delicious.... Except the lizard, fuggin crazy stuff here!!!

Dove hunting (country pigeon) is big out by me in the late fall after the crops have been harvested. It is a delicacy I enjoy and very rarely get.

Ahhhh. See, you can get Keebler Jingles. I wonder if they were both called Jingles and Keebler won a lawsuit at some point?

Keebler bought Salerno, apparently, and started making their own version of Jingles, which are called "inferior" at this blog. Jingles became Santa's Favorites.

Do you have a bowl of ribbon candy next to the plastic-covered sofa?

My grandparents used to give us ribbon candy until we told them we didn't actually like it. Also the couches used to have plastic on them.

So goddamn Polish.

This was my great grandparents.

Let's start posting those holiday meals.

Every year we get together with old friends for a feast.  We take turns hosting.  This year it is our turn.

The menu;

First course:

Cream of broccoli soup

Main course:

Chateaubriand, salt encrusted and slow roasted and seared under the broiler to finish, with a cherry demi glace

Roasted root vegetable and pearl barley risotto with acorn squash, sweet onions, carrots, and wilted kale, with a drizzle of white truffle oil

Whiskey will be consumed, of course.

Well, the peanut butter balls and Oreo chocolate truffles are currently being made by the wife.

Tomorrow I'll be doing a maple glazed spiral ham, broccoli casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy from the ham, I'd imagine some kind of veggie and dinner rolls. O, and deviled eggs.

Christmas day I'm making Italian wedding soup, lasagna, and prime rib. Oh, and deviled eggs.

For dessert, my lady is making me chocolate pudding pie, and her and the kid will be having Dutch Apple pie, with ice cream, I'm sure.

Edit to add: the big boss got me a bottle of Cabernet, so... maybe. The other boss got me a gift card to the liquor store, and that is going to be turned into bourbon.

I'll be eating whatever the cafeteria is serving on Christmas.... Or sending one of my students to McDonald's.... Hapless holidays....

Oh the joys of that 24/7 job. I've worked many a Christmas or Thanksgiving or you name it's. Cafeteria usually served us prime ribs on Xmas and New year's. Ham on Easter and turkey and the fixings on Thanksgiving. It's never even close to as good as home, but at least it's free.

Unfortunately, I don't think our cafeteria can even comprehend the words "prime rib" it is all pretty low quality food, it makes me want to meal prep/plan more.... But I'm too lazy for that.

Well, I mean, ours can say the words. Doesn't make it so.

I'm attempting to reheat some leftover Chinese. Jo gets this "healthy" dish of steamed chicken and veggies and it comes with this "brown sauce" that defies science. I've been microwaving it for like 5 minutes and it just bubbles and bubbles and doesn't get hot. I'm wondering if it's made of asbestos
