3 Burning Questions

Recommended Posts

1. I'm expecting a one-goal game -- maybe an EN -- but more likely a game that goes to OT. I have no idea who wins, but it's been a home team's series so far, so I will call it 2-1 for Vancouver, in OT (the first).

2. Over-rated in most quarters, but important nonetheless. There's a fair amount of mythologizing that goes on with the title -- myth? myth? ... yeth? yeth?

3. With the NFL in a lock out, I will stick with the NHL for off-season news.

1. Vancouver 3-2 (OT)

2. The captain is over-rated. it is an important title, and the captain is supposed to have certain on -ice duties, but sometimes the whole captain title gets a little too much spotlight.

3. Offseason hockey news since there's no football. I'll probably follow the Yankees, but not too heavily. It's gonna be a LOOONNGGG Summer

1. Who wins game 7 tomorrow - by what score?

I don't want to say who, because when I predict what I want, the opposite usually happens. However, I'll say that the score will be 4-2.

2. Is the concept of “Captain” in hockey over-rated or under-rated?

The concept of the "C" on a sweater is often over-rated, but the concept of leadership, on and off the ice, is under-rated. Effort, attitude, and an unwillingness to accept failure are contagious. There are three types of players: those that have it inherent in their DNA, those that will follow the lead of the example set at the top, and those that will never get it. You'd like to have all of the first kind, but it's more likely that even the best teams will have a strong handful of those players at the top leading some of the middle group. The litmus test to determine the second versus the third is to bring in those first players and see how the rest react. Those leaders will draw the best out of some, while the rest should be purged.

3. What sport gets your dominant attention starting Thursday?

Hockey off-season (draft, July 1, rookie camp, training camp, pre-season.) I do spend more time away from the TV, though.

I think Boston dominates tomorrow. Not sure of the score but it won't be a one goal game.

I don't think captains are underrated or overrated. Designated leaders are important in all teams, sports, work, or otherwise.

For me hockey doesn't end until after early July. I can't actually watch it but it is the sport I follow until there is no news to speak of. I don't watch other sports in the summer. If I have a free evening or weekend I'll grab the golf clubs or the skeet gun.

1. Vancouver 2-1

2. Captaincy is over-rated but still important

3. Hockey offseason and any pertinent football news despite the lockout. I also follow the Mets so I'll be hoping they pull things together and their jackass of an owner doesn't let Jose Reyes go.

1. 2-0 Boston including an empty netter. :death:

2. Not sure about captains, but I am curious the typical role a captain plays on a daily basis, and how the range of captain duties varies across the league.

3. NHL is usually a constant fix still until mid-July. NFL is supposed to kick in real fast starting late July, but we'll see....

On one hand, I'm glad to be catching these last few games until October, but on the other hand I'll be glad to be spending most of my leisure time outside now. I took out the trash last night following the game and it was gorgeous outside, and asked myself why I didn't hadn't moved the TV out to the front porch :)

1. I'm thinking the Nucks actually get to 2-3 of those rebounds Thomas has been giving up. 3-1 Nucks but Thomas gets the personal hardward.

2. Captaincy is overrated unless you've lucked into having a Messier or Clarke type on your roster. Leadership is appropriately rated or slightly underrated. Without leaders (see Sabres 08/07) or worse non-leaders thrust into leadership roles (see Yashin) a team cannot win the 'must' win games.

3. W/ no NFL currently on the horizon and NHL/youth hockey & lax done, NHL offseason & youth soccer.

1. Who wins game 7 tomorrow - by what score?

Vancouver 4 - Boston 2

A return from slush to ice will work wonders for the 'Nucks.

2. Is the concept of “Captain” in hockey over-rated or under-rated?

Much over-rated at the NHL level. Under-appreciated at all minor league levels.

3. What sport gets your dominant attention starting Thursday?

Mostly baseball.....but I'll be watching the draft and UFA moves in Hockey.

1: VAN, 3-1 (wishing, probably)

2: I think it depends on the makeup of team, to a certain degree. Hockey players like everyone else fall into categories. There are sure to be self-motivated people and people that need external motvation to get going.

3: World Superbike, MotoGP, Formula 1 (in that order)

Ahhh skeet. I love going shooting. I used to have an 870 express, but I've outgrown that a little lol. I've been using my friends extra gun when we go because I haven't pony'ed up for another one yet. It's still great to just go out and blow up some clay even if you don't hit a whole lot.

1. A close game - prolly overtime. Mmmmm...Boston wins on a fluke goal late in first OT.

2. The "C" isn't always worn by the guys(s) who lead the team. It should mean more, but it really depends on the team and their make-up. Over-rated (slightly).

3. Formula One racing. I don't follow baseball much until September. Then college football. The NFL can go jump in the lake.

1. The only proper way to dispose of an old American flag is to burn it.

2. Always make sure there are no restrictions from starting a camp fire (and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving.)

3. Go see a specialist.

1) Boston Wins a close game 3-2 in 1st OT

2) The sabres have sucked for 4 years and had sucky captains for 4 years or some rotating BS so I think captains are important and undervalued in some organizations.

3) There is another sport other than hockey?

1. If the game is officiated fairly, instead of for Boston, then Canucks 3-1, otherwise Boston 2-1 in OT.

2. Captaincy is variable. If a team coalesces around a captain (like the Sabres did when Rivet arrived) it can be good. In this case Rivet got hurt early in his tenure and was never quite the player everyone expected. This was bad.

3. I have lost interest in all sports except hockey. I only care about baseball if the Yankees make the playoffs.

Hmmmm couver 3-2 in regulation, plus ill add that there will be another significant injury in this game.

Yes a C does make a difference in some way or another, clearly the sabres are either not in agreement with that statement or they are unaware.

I love me some tennis so ill catch wimbledon and the other majors over the summer as well as some continued bantering here : )

Boston 4, Vancouver 3, hopefully in sixth or seventh overtime for the sake of the season lasting a few more hours...

For Captaincy -- I think letters are over rated, and leadership from other veterans might be under rated. Eric Staal wears the C for the Hurricanes but you can't tell me the leadership of Brindamour (who wore the C early in Staals career), glen wesley, erik cole, doug weight, etc didn't help Staal become the leader that he is.

As for sports, NHL off-season will have my full attention. I'll probably try to get familiar with the top 20 or so projected draft choices so I have a better idea who Buffalo might select. I probably won't get too much into baseball and even if the NFL avoids a lockout, there won't be much interesting news til August or so anyway. I have been watching more soccer lately though!

Boston by 2 goals. Say 3-1.

If coaches actually awarded the captain position to who showed leadership, not just talent... the ability to help the team. Often I think it goes to someone with skills or seniority but not someone who has the ability to lead the team. Someone who everyone envisions being a coach after they retire. So most of the time it is irrelevant or not very important, once in a while some actually takes the responsibility seriously and then honor has some significance.

My son's little baseball team begins playoffs this weekend. His first year on the team of 1st and 2nd graders and already he is one of their best hitters. Needs to work on his fielding, but is getting better. He went 5-5 last game with 2 doubles, the most a runner can get in this league and the ball has to get to the outfield in the air to be counted as a double, otherwise imo they would both have been home runs.

The NHL draft and then nothing till September and preseason hockey.

1- Boston wins 3-1, mentally tougher in my mind and seem more able to battle through. Plus they have Thomas who isn't Luongo.

2- Captaincy is important if you have a leader that rises to the challenge in the big games and captaincy is important if you have a captain who can't.

3-I'll be watching the N.H.L. draft and free agency then taking the summer off . Can't see myself spending time in front of the dummy box when real life beckons and the weather is so nice.
