TRADETALK / Promote from Roch?

Spoonman

  • Spoonman changed the title to TRADETALK / Promote from Roch?

A lot of people want to see the bottom 6 improved, myself included.

Looking for more or better veteran on-ice support.  Not gonna get that from Rochester.   Quinn and Tage returning will help us build a better 3rd line.   Until then we will struggle.  The 4C position is in need of improvement.   Another big tough forward like Greenway would help as well.

VO, Krebs, KO are the weakest players right now.

They could use a defensive minded veteran center with playoff experience... a PK specialist who can win draws.

Also... for the love God, get Tage off the PK... you can't have your 50 goal scorer standing in shooting lanes absorbing shots.... just dumb.

Eriksson Ek
M. Granlund
Compher
Cirelli
Lowry

....those are some the top guys in the league, more realistically...

N. Dowd
R. Faska
N. Bjugstad
F. Gaudreau

I'm afraid the Sabres need more gritty vets. They're all too young. Many look like boys. They don't have the maturity it takes for consistency in this league. The team is like having a diet of pure sugar and skipping out on the meat and potatoes. I like the kids in the pipeline but they're all "sugar" players too. More meat and potatoes please. Seems like KA and DG are sugar too because they have constructed a sugar lineup.

I don't have any specific recommendations as far as trade targets, but no more sugar please.

Sign Phil Kessel. Probably has as much in the tank that P Kane would have on one hip.

Hawks sat Perry and he is not with the team. Rumour is he wants to be moved. At $4 million he might not fit a lot of teams.

38 with 9 points in 16 games so far. Pain in the ass net front presence dirty goal king. Perry for VO. make it happen Kevyn😛

I don't understand what he thought was gonna happen he signed with a bottom feeding team .

Yikes

I think they could offer him the money with a promise they would move him to a contender at the deadline and make the money work.

Tough, experienced middle 6 forwards with good 2-way games who may be available from teams about to rebuild:

Blake Coleman, Flames -- turns 32 next week, 3 more years after this one at $4.9MM per year, 5'11, 207 lbs, won 2 cups with Tampa, 65 career playoff games (in which he has averaged 16:31 per game in TOI). 38 pts in 82 games last year.

Brock Nelson, Islanders -- 6'3", 212 lbs, age 32, 1 more year after this one at $6MM per year, 36-39-75 in 82 games last year.  Plays about 18 min per game every year.  73 career playoff games -- 46 pts, just under 18 min average TOI.

Barclay Goodrow, Rangers (not rebuilding but might want to make a move to free up cap space, as Goodrow has fallen down the lineup) -- turns 31 in February, 6'3", 215 lbs, 3 more years after this one at $3.6MM per year, 81 playoff games with average TOI of 15:26, including 2 cup runs with Tampa in which he played 18 min and 17 min.

I'd be pleased if the Sabres acquired any of these guys at the right price.  I'd expect Goodrow would be pretty inexpensive, Coleman would cost more and Nelson would cost the most.

Goalie,

2 grizzled veteran forwards on reasonable deals, 1 skill with 200' game, 1 face off specialist with defensive game, both in the 27 to 30 yr old range,

1 big bodied defensive d man with snarl, reasonable contract, same 27 to 30 yr old range.

You've had conversations all through the off season I'm sure and you are aware of what is needed. You have the assets Adams, get it done please.

It's true, but the off season was the time to do that. Aside from a waiver pick up I don't think you are going to find what you want out there on the market unless you make a huge overpay and we wouldn't do that (at least I think we wouldn't). Calgary is likely going to unload closer to the deadline but I don't see many teams right now looking to remove any of their bottom 6. The guys in play right now are going to be over priced vets who teams want to unload for cap space come deadline.

Get the guy who destroyed Cozens face, add someone like Corey Perry or David Perron. Not sure of any other names I've seen available as far as forwards go but if we wait until the deadline we'll probably be bounced by then so the point would probably be moot.

The type of guys who WERE available in free agency. Not now. Maybe Perry is. Not many though.

Speaking of wasted roster spots for useless players, I didn't like the honorarium that was gifted to Okposo and to a lesser extent Girgensons. It reminded me of what the Bills have done with Hamlin. The common factor? Pegula.

Yeah but Hamlin doesn’t play regularly
