MODO Hockey
More depth down the middle: Sabres sign Jacob Josefson The Sabres are burning some evening oil Saturday, signing former New Jersey center Jacob Josefson to a one-year, $700,000 contract. The one-way deal was first reported by TSN's Ryan Rishaug. Josefson, 26, was the Devils' No. 1 draft pick in 2009 but has had an injury plagued career and has never lived up to that promise. He had one goal and nine assists in 38 games last season. Josefson has played 276 NHL games for the Devils over parts of seven seasons, totaling 18 goals and 42 assists. He also played six playoff games in 2012 for New Jersey, all of them coming in the Eastern Conference final against the New York Rangers and the Stanley Cup final against Los Angeles. (Full career stats here) His career high for a season is 14 points, set over 58 games two years ago. His most productive season was 2012-13, when he had 10 goals and 25 for Albany of the AHL. http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=7655

nucci
One way deal. Just means his salary stays the same if sent down

jsb
Actually I bet this allows Girgensons to play wing.... he'll the the 4th line center
Rasmus_
Josefsson isn't someone you'll worry about waiving if for some reason he wasn't able to break camp with the big club. However he does offer speed and skill to the bottom six forward group. He's never found success at scoring in 5v5 play, but he's an electric special teams talent. Randall Flagg
I believe he has the worst 5v5 points per 60 in the NHL over the last 3 years.

dudacek
He's essentially this year's Derek Grant, right?
GASabresIUFAN
I think Griffith is this years Grant, but I was wondering about this move. We can move Girgensons to wing at any time. Just move Reinhart to center and give one of Bailey, Baptiste or Fasching a real chance in the NHL. A spine of Jack, ROR, Reinhart and Larsson looks a lot better then Jack, ROR, Larsson and Josefson. That said, I reading some Devils posts about Josefson and it seems that this guy is an excellent Pker and shootout specialist. Two skills we desperately need. jeffismagic
Defensive 4th line center who can PK and excels in shootouts? Great move.
Sabre fan
some are already projecting this guy to be our fourth-line center.
carpandean
Shootouts: https://youtu.be/McOio6O_QxU https://youtu.be/izT7rSHFcTg https://youtu.be/JWBSspqpr5k https://youtu.be/zsdbGy1rW2E "Ouchtown, population you, bro" courtesy of Jake McCabe: https://youtu.be/uYoYbAOwTWA And, of course, the most important question: if he makes the team, what number will he wear? Obviously 16 is out. He wore 40 when he was younger, but Lehner's got that. Then, he were 10 in Albany, which would be my guess. That, or maybe Max's old number. GASabresIUFAN
Josefsson did not play PK last year I checked the stats, he did play 21 minutes. Admittedly that's not much, but I did find out he won nearly 52% of his draws.
Thorny
Likely 4th line center, 11/21 in shootouts in career And this will provide an underrated contribution likely, given our abysmal shootout record last season.
carpandean
And this will provide an underrated contribution likely, given our abysmal shootout record last season. Sadly, an extra goal for us probably wouldn't have helped win most of theirs. Lehner was "oh for" in many of them, as were most of our forwards. Tom Backyard
Hopefully he spends most of his time in Rochester or the press box. Does one of you guys who follow the Amerks closely know the details of the limits of NHL experience rules? How close are they getting?
