Leafs sign Patrick Marleau to a 3year contract at 6.25mil per season. Marleau is 37 but seems to have something left on the tank. I get the feeling though t hat he had nowhere else to go as one has to think he would have preferred to go to a team that had a good shot at a cup, like Pittsburgh, Chicago, etc. The Leafs will be lucky just to repeat what they did last season, having just about every player play way over their heads and having almost no injuries all season which in itself is quite a feat. Still a good signing  for those dreaded leafs...

and did anyone see where some fan in Oakland caught not one, not two but three foul balls? Two of them from the same batter on back-to-back pitches! Crazy stuff

Sometimes GMs just can't help themselves. All those old skool brains in the front office in Toronto.  Good luck fitting that salary into the mix in the future.  Who knows... maybe he's the next 40y/o energizer bunny.

Tom GulittiVerified account @TomGulittiNHL

The Capitals announce they have traded Marcus Johansson to the Devils for Florida’s 2018 2nd rd pick and Toronto’s 2018 3rd rd pick.

Damn. I'd have loved to do this.

Sabres should be looking to trade for or offer sheet Burakovsky right now.

Washington GM admits the reason Johanssen was traded was to resign Kuznetsov. He could have, you know, not thrown ###### you money at Oshie, who's s% was over 11% higher this year than his career average

I wish we would have beat/matched the offer. You'd think they would have rather traded him to us rather than within the division. He's locked up for 2 more years at just under $4.6 million.

In the "there's another example of the GM's giving absolutely absurd contracts then will whine and regret down the road" we have Dallas of all teams giving Alexander Radulov. get this, 5 years at 6.25 million per year (have you stopped laughing yet?). absolutely crazy!

I wonder if Botterill hates Washington enough to offer Andre Burakovsky a 4 year deal at 15 million. AAV of 3.75 mil and would only cost the sabres a second rd pick?

Botterill isn't offering any RFA anything with Eichel and Reinhart set to become RFA's next summer

But Botterill won't let them get to RFA status because he will sign them to extension before that.

I think Jack signs for 8 year 80 million.

Sam will get 3 year 10 million bridge- show me you can score on more than just the PP

They have to be willing to sign. If McDavid gets $13.25 million per year and Eichel convinces himself that he's just as good and he thinks he will prove it this season he's not going to sign and nobody can force him to. Same with Reinhart. Maybe he doesn't want a bridge deal and he tells GMJB where to stick that low ball offer. What if he wants a contract more similar to what Drouin got?

What do you do then? Break their knee caps or threaten to trade them? They can always just wait out the season and get their agent to solicit offer sheets in a year.

Yup. And Eichel would be a fool to sign an extension right now
