Some of teams that supported defined compensation didn't believe it would apply to "fired" coaches/GMs. But it does.

Who would it apply to if not "fired" coaches and GMs?

This rule they created shouldn't apply to coaches who were fired and the fact they don't have language to that affect,  :wallbash:

They have purchased the rights to his services through the end of next season.  Even though they're not using the services, they own the rights to them.

So does that mean it wasn't ours?

PIT gets 2016 3rd rd pick from BUF as compensation. Pick was originally NYI but has condition attached to it, so PIT likely getting VAN pick

Per @SabresPR, Dan Bylsma has the best points percentage (.668) of any head coach in NHL history with at least three full seasons coached.

WGR will have the news conference.

It's exciting to finally have a head coach, and one with a Stanley Cup victory on his resume.  Welcome Disco Dan Bylsma!

So when was the last time that was true? Bowman for sure, but after that?

That allows for the possibility of some low end RFA offer sheets. Glad the Sabres held tight and didn't give up the Sabres own 2016 3rd. The value of the 3rd doesn't matter much IMO, but that it isn't the Buffalo pick is good for flexibility.

It is. But I don't think many of those guys have done it again with another team.

How NHL head coaches have won more than 1 cup?  Just curious to know.  Obviously Daryl Sutter and Joel Quennville but who else has won cups as a coach?
