An even number isn't necessary--there were 21 teams for a long time--but does he think there's enough talent to go around to 33 teams by 2020? Because there isn't enough talent for 30 teams now. Because there isn't enough talent for 30 teams now. I'm a little torn on the talent part. I would be willing to bet that a few extra teams would lead to some guys who were viewed as AHL or lower for life turning into legitimate NHL players. There is talent that is missed because of bad decision makers and scouts in certain franchises. A few more teams wouldn't hurt, I don't believe. Nothing turns them into legitimate NHL players except that they make the NHL by default. It's like holding tryouts and keeping everyone because you didn't have enough to cut anyone.
