Don't like the trade but it's a done deal. We all know where Kesselring is going to play, but what about Doan?

He has a Mule-esque sample size in the league of just 62GP and 28pts (which isn't bad for PPG).

With it being subject to change post Byram deal and free agency, where does he fit into the lineup?

3rd line rw... so Quinn, where's he fit.

In terms of the 23-man roster, he takes the Peterka spot while Kesselring pushes Bryson to Rochester.

Right now, in terms of usage, at worst he’s an upgrade for Lafferty on the 4th line, but more likely they see him as a stylistic upgrade to Quinn as the 3RW.

But I think you’re right in that there are probably more shoes to fall.

In the immediate, barring future moves (which there really HAVE to be, right?) this pencils in Quinn into the top 6, Doan into his slot on the 3rd line, and Kesselring as the 4D partnered up with Power.

Guess of how Ruff would deploy them based upon last year's usage (and arranging lines by ice time, not necessarily function).

Line 1 - Benson Norris Thompson

Line 2 - Quinn McLeod Tuch

Line 3 - Zucker Kulich Doan/Greenway

Line 4 - Doan/Greenway Krebs Malenstyn

Spare: Lafferty

And that DEFINITELY has room for improvement.

At the moment, I would consider moving Thompson to the left wing. If Quinn is in the top 6, I'm not putting him with a younger center ala his time with Cozens, so Norris gets him. Kulich is very overextended in this lineup.

TNT - Kulich - Tuch
Benson - Norris - Quinn
Zucker - McLeod - Doan
Malenstyn - Krebs - Greenway
(Lafferty, Kozak, Rosén)

I can see him on line 3:

LW Benson

  C McLeod

RW Doan

3rd or 4th line.

I could see him on a 3rd line. He brings a bit of a physical game, correct? And in his limited time in the NHL, he has scored at a 16-goal-per-82 game rate.  And that is with just 13 minutes per game.

Best case reasonable scenario, give him 10% more ice time on a 3rd line role and he gets 20 goals for you (or close to it) while bringing a bit of a physical game.

Again, I don't know his game all that well. But, if he can give you 15-20 goals....if he plays a bit better defensively than JJP and plays a bit more physical....is that worth the 10 goal per season drop from Peterka?

Again, not knowing much about his current game style, you would think he would/could be physical, but he also hardly has any penalty minutes.

Anyway, he comes to camp and competes for a spot. Competition, right?

Thompson should never play center again for the sabres.

Whom do you propose gets top line C job then? I don't trust Norris to last more than 50 games his track record and we have little proven depth behind him.

Right now, between Dahlin and Greenway.

I get it.. I get it!!!

I think Doan is the kind of player who is more effective in the playoffs. The sad thing is he needs to be on a team that gets in the playoffs.

On the Sabres he fits squarely on the 3rd line maybe 2nd line if he takes another step?

Seems to play a similar game to Tyson Kozak... but with better hands and shot.

Has the ability to score from the outside, accurate shooter with a quick release and velocity.

Saw some time on the powerplay last season.

I literally haven’t heard of him till today but the sabres acquired him so, would I be right in assuming he’s a shoot first player?

Until they add Dobson and completely ruin your post.

"Right now..." and I hope you're right.

Maybe his father coached that out of him.
