I believe that Colorado's front office understood how good Byram is. They are in a position to seriously compete for the Cup. They made a deal that made sense for them by acquiring Mitts to address a need in pursuit of their high aspiration for this season. When you want to receive value, you have to give up value. This was a good hockey deal for each franchise.

I've been reading the thread on HFBoards Avs forum about the trade.  Basically both teams are benefiting because both players were playing about a line below their capabilities but are now able to play in the right spot on their new teams.  They desperately needed a 2C to get serious about the playoffs and they've filled that void pretty well.  Their comments about Mittsy's play mirrors what we saw in Buffalo, and he's the undisputed 2C there.

They know Byram is very good, but he's not about to break into Makar - Toews.
The Sabres know Mitts is good, but he's not going to leap over Tage and Dylan (at least in the long term).

Both teams benefit.

Watching the Wings and Seider they desperately need a Byram for Seider. How they get that I don’t know.

Getting a quality centre is difficult. Getting a young top pairing dman is next to impossible.

I like Mitts but this deal had to be made 10 out of 10 times.

I respectfully but strenuously disagree with your assessment of Power. There is no question that he is not a banger but that doesn't mean (to me) that he is a soft player. As far as "could" be traded that description can be applied to every player on the team and in the league. People have different perspectives and evaluations on players. That's OK.

I don’t know, man,… he’s pretty soft. He’s really young, though, so I still have hope.

I'm confident that he will in the not-too-distant future be an instrumental player for us. Don't let his more finesse style of play cloud your judgment on him. He's going to be really good. So good where a lot of organizations would make a bountiful trade to acquire him. Be patient---you will come around.

I don't know what you are so aggravated over. The Dude word in your response is juvenile. You don't have to respond. I will do you a favor and not respond to you any longer.

I resolved this dude name caller's problem. I put him on my ignore list. I aim to please.

John, Dude is kind of like saying “Hey man”.  To some its used as a term of endearment.

How is it next to impossible? If he is one we've already got 3. All you have to do is suck bad for a decade.

JohnC talks to people like he is the only one who has ever watched hockey before. If you only read his posts, you’d think the Sabres are the 2 seed.

Also, wasn’t it reported when we drafted him that he was actually coached to not be overly aggressive because they always wanted him on the ice? He plays soft and nobody is going to convince otherwise. He is either going to need a player who doesn’t to show him how or he is going to need to be coached out of it.
