More apt and recent comparison would be Brayden McNabb.  Young defenseman we developed and gave up for nothing.  He's had a nice career.

You’re welcome to have your own comparison.

My comparison with Tim Kennedy has to do with the hand ringing.

What was Borgen's trade value?  A 4th rd pick?  Risto will easily return a 2nd and remove a 5.4 mill cap liability.

I don't think by the way it looks Seattle would have taken Risto.

I'd rather have exposed him.

If we exposed him they take Zemgus or Miller, no?

Wouldn't that have been better then losing Borgen?

If Risto is only returning a 2nd round pick, sorry, I'd rather keep Borgen and risk losing Risto.  Which again, looks like they wouldn't have picked him.

Where am I wrong?

Because Borgen is at best a 3rd pairing guy.  He can be replaced by signing Luke Schenn for 800K.

Risto, who may or may not be traded, is a better player and just as physical.   Risto, if pairing correctly, gives us an excellent PP asset and a solid 2nd line player who can play 20 minutes plus a night. Borgen isn't even close.

If traded should return a second rd pick and a reasonable prospect.

Bottomline: Risto is a better all around player and has more trade value.  That is why you protect him over a guy like Borgen who has 14 games of NHL experience with zero points, is already 24 and limited trade value (if any).

I'm just done hearing about we don't use him right.

I'm doubting the return on Risto.

And we know that he's been a major part of a defense that has been atrocious his entire tenure here.

So yes, the "analytics" to all that you said and I'm sure the front office is thinking to has some merit.  Fine.  I just disagree.

But again my point, Seattle wasn't going to pick Risto.

We could have him and Borgen right now and would have lost Miller -imo.

You have no idea whether they would have taken him or not.

I don’t understand these takes about losing Borgen being bad asset management.  What were the alternatives? Exposing Risto instead would be bad asset management. He will bring a better return then Borgen. The rumours of draft pick asking prices in order to choose a specific player were 1st round picks. That is bad asset management.

Losing a tweener 3rd pairing dman is not life or death. Losing him and not replacing the element he brings to a lineup is a mistake but there are plenty of options out there.
