As @Brawndo stated the quinine and azithromycin route appears to have some good findings as of now. Quinine has historically been used in the family of Corona viruses for quite some time now. Also Brawn, I sent ya a PM

So I should continue with my Gin & Tonic regiment?

My mandatory furlough begins on Sunday. I was back to work today to a completely empty casino, and that's just plain strange. However I was one of 8 people allowed inside the count room. That's literally the only room in the building that I'm not allowed to be in. But, since the chips need cleaning and only table games staff and surveillance staff understand our accounting system, it falls on the table games staff to clean the chips. I'll be doing this for 2 more days then I'll be laid off. I'm guessing it'll be a month.

By the way, I changed gloves about a thousand times today. While I'm sure I didn't contract Covid-19, I did probably get hepatitis. Those chips are the most disgusting thing on Earth. Way dirtier than cash. No question!

My FIL has been a being a real asshat about the social distancing thing. I swear he sits in his living room for two weeks straight without leaving the house just fine until he's told not to. Now he's got these all errands he "has" to do. My wife and her sisters have been harping on him and he just gets more resolve to go out. He has been stressing out my wife and I with these antics. My MIL had cancer treatment not long ago and everyone is concerned for her health(except the asshat apparently). He was out to lunch with some other old dudes yesterday and started giving my wife a hard time again last night about how he had to go for this and that and how he had to go down to the historical society to archive stuff the next day. Belligerent like a two year old.  I had finally had enough and jumped down his throat, threatening to take his wheels off the friggin car if wouldn't cooperate. He must have got the message because he called today to get on our list of people that we are making the ONE trip out for. Friggin jerk. He's a very smart guy and I've always looked up to until he started this nonsense.

Has anyone heard rumors about a National Shelter in Place coming over the weekend?

No, and I hope it never happens. That will be a disaster in and of itself.

I saw this on Facebook:

It's 2020.

The toilet paper rapture has occurred.

The rolls have been called up yonder.

Since March 1st ... 10.4 mil. tests are in circulation so far and ever growing. So that’s a positive.

Bayer drug company donated 3 million Anti-Malaria pills. In case it goes in that direction as a treatment. So that’s a positive.

Confirmed cases at my main hospital, I have had some symptoms this week, but no fever, my inhaler seems to be helping.

I had to intubate a patient with B/L pneumonia that went to the ICU, was low risk but then we found out he had visitors from New Rochelle recently, my guess is that his patient had it, I had the right mask on, but still suspicious.

I liked what Cuomo said this morning about keeping calm and how we've already had it most likely, he's not my favorite but I appreciated his speech.... Until he compared this to 9/11, then I stopped listening (please don't make this political) it was just a good speech about not panicking and that many people probably have already healed from it. I realize it's not a scientific speech, but one I think we all may need to hear at this time.

I'm not being political about Cuomo's comments. TBT, he has no other choice. He has to show a balance between necessary precautions and not letting the people of his state be gripped with fear. IOW, leadership.

California has issued a statewide stay at home order. That's 12% of the nation.

Thanks.

Gonna rant here: that is the stupidest thing he could have done! If I'm not mistaken, this means that trucks can't move, which means no food nor fuel.

I really hope I'm wrong on this one, but I fear that this is a disaster in the making.

Stay at home... shelter in place... quarantine... isolation... The terms aren't precise and could be improved. In Cali, you can still travel for essential reasons (food, medicine, approved work). I'm sure trucking continues.

I was wondering how specific they would try to get. So it’s basically just a “we’re serious” message to some of the more stubborn people out there.

I hope you're right with regard to the transportation industry. SFAIK, when the President declared a state of emergency, that meant that trucks could be exempted from DOT/HOS rules as long as the vital customer demand was there. I fall under that, but the need for it hasn't been exercised yet.

Shelter in place doesn’t mean supplies won’t be delivered (trains, planes, trucks) to grocery stores and pharmacies. That probably extends to Walmart’s and Target type stores too for any “essentials”. It also allows for doctor visits.
It’s also highly unenforceable. San Francisco had it for a few days and the population still went for walks outdoors as well as essential travel without issue from any “enforcement” agency.

It's on in Westchester, but walks ok... parks still open and now state parks are free til this ends... basically its for confined spaces and non-essential etc

I went for a nice 25 mile cycle yesterday, it was good to get some fresh air. The number of people/traffic out was nearly the same as before COVID, this comes after a state of emergency was just issued down here.

Im not expecting society to completely shut down, but I was expecting to see a little difference. Maybe those side conversations with people walking their dogs wouldn't be so apparent, maybe enforce a 6ft rule outdoors, small things to help while people are out keeping their sanity.

No new crazy updates from the hospital yet, we got an email about not canceling shifts it's against the oath we took, etc etc. Many providers have been getting caught up in this and are calling off, sadly, this is not the time to do that as the stress level is already high, being any more short staffed would indeed cause more chaos.

I'm back at it tomorrow for a few days, so I'll try and update this place with anything that seemed relevant and unbiased ?

If anyone is interested (or really, really bored) here is a good video on the nitty gritty of running a covid19 PCR reaction.  Some of the early steps that she goes through for viral RNA extraction can be more automated for higher throughput, but the steps and process of setting up the RT-PCR reaction itself is going to closely resemble what is being done in labs throughout the world for covid19 diagnostics.

If you miss the company of some of the residents, is Skype an option?

Depression can be just as dangerous as the virus, and, if I understand correctly, can also compromise the immune system.

I am having some friends over on Saturday. I can't just sit here with no live social interaction.  See above.

Thank you. It's an admirable idea. HIPAA probably would not allow it. Not to mention the Jitterbug-Android compatibility issue. It's not really a matter of missing them or their company. Although they help me in many ways, I am there for them, they are not there for me. Maybe some health care workers become emotionally attached to patients/residents, but it's generally not a good idea. I miss the work.

But yeah technology like that is being used in lots of places to connect quarantined residents with their loved ones who can't visit.

On a somewhat related note, the local funeral home is now live-streaming funerals. Getcha popcorn!

These instruments are absurdly sensitive to contamination (of stray RNA/DNA), they take those pre-cautions even if they didn't care about anything.  If your glove touches something you need to change it out or you'll likely contaminate the sample.

And that's why the US testing is behind.  1) CDC declared a monopoly on testing then 2) contaminated their control.  Anything you see about the US being behind is pure political pandering unless they are blaming the red tape.

That is NOT true. Shelter in place absolutely excludes a lot of industries, including gas, shipping and food production. Here's an article about it:

@PASabreFanwhen it comes to telemedicine, there are a few companies out there that are ramping up in general, but more so now.

We have just signed up for it in case we get quarantined, then we can still do telemedicine from home, this is all Hippa compliant.

As stated above, make sure to take your zinc, zinc has been long proven to help against many viruses over the decades.

I wish you best of health in these tremulous times!
