PromoTheRobot
http://www.wgr550.com/media/audio-channel/06-29-former-sabres-forward-thomas-vanek-instigatorsmp3 Thomas Vanek on the Instigators this morning. Andrew Peters was making noises like TV was getting ready to sign with the Sabres. Vanek of course played dumb, saying his agent is handling everything. So would you take it as meaning something or is it just Petey being Petey?
GASabresIUFAN
We have one good LW and then a bunch of grinders or has beens. Vanek, is at the right price, for a year or two would add much need scoring. Vanek has played with only one top notch center in his career. He was a fool for leaving Tavares and the NYI but so be it. Hooking him up with Eichel, or ROR, or even Reinhart on a 3rd line would be interesting to watch. Can you imagine a Vanek, Reinhart and Bailey 3rd line. It would be very interesting. LGR4GM
I'll take Vanek if Ennis or Moulson are dealt.

GASabresIUFAN
People don't realize what a great career Vanek has had. In one of the best draft classes of all time, Vanek is 8th in games, 4th in goals, 6th in assists and 4th in pts. Ahead of Bergeron, Parise, Carter, Pavelski, Kesler and Backes. We are paying Moulson $5 mill to score 15g and add 15 assists as a PP specialist and play 10 minutes on the 4th line. Vanek is still a 40-50 pt player who we can probably get for under $4 mill. Scottysabres
Sooo....lock up Vanek for 2 years then trade with the Wild for one of their d men and take Pommers in the trade? There is Reinharts wingers?
Weave
Oh man. We could sign Vanek, sign Soupy, sign Miller, trade for Pommer. It would be just like all those great times we underachieved before the tank. Want.
Thorny
I'll take Vanek if Ennis or Moulson are dealt. Yup. I'd rather have Vanek than those two bums.

Bogosian for Scandela and Pommers

Bogosian for Scandela and Pommers Well, that would be a fantastic 3rd scoring line, all 3 go at the same speed (I jest :P). But in all honesty, Vanwk and Pommers as Reinharts wingers as a 3rd scoring line interests me. Gives time for the kids to grow. The only 2 I see ready in Rochester to possibly jump are Baptiste (who I am convinced would be great on Jack's RW) and Bailey.
DarthEbriate
We had the top PP% in the league last season, but that was almost all the result of the first unit (and Moulson was on #1 to start the season, IIRC). Vanek on the 2nd PP (or heck, Campbell or Shattenkirk on PP2). I'd be OK with that. But we can't ice both Moulson and (a better player, but the same role) in Vanek. I do love the idea of him coming home and being a net-front garbage-goal bull in the playoffs the next few seasons and retiring with a Buffalo Cup. That'd give this Darth the warm fuzzies. He'd show some of our guys how to score in the shootout too. Can you imagine Eichel doing the puck-circle wrister with his shot? Vanek with Reinhart is intriguing, but they'd need a grinder or someone to shoot at everything because they both have the vision. Perchance a Kane? sabills
Mean, I agree with not bringing the old core back in general, but if you took Eichel and put it with that core in their heyday, whooboy. Can you imagine Jack that first year out of the lockout?
bunomatic
No retreads please. Also what We've said.
qwksndmonster
Man, the rotten core era (I perfer "Darcy's Hibernation") scarred some of y'all even worse than the tank did.
dudacek
I don't think it is a coincidence both Vanek and his agent were on WGR today. They are interested in coming back to Buffalo.
sabills
Vanek might be worth bringing back just so we could actually score in the shootout.
thewookie1
I'll pose the board a question, if Vanek was never a Sabres, would you be interested in him then?

DarthEbriate
Fun thought experiment: Add a 21 year old Eichel to those teams and how good are they? Do we get to keep all of our defencemen healthy? And does he replace Gaustad between Drury and Grier on L2 or Connolly between Kotalik and Pommers (L4)? bob_sauve28
Vanek would fit in nice I think. Scoring goals but not being the star of the team. To use a baseball analogy, you can't have enough good hitters in the lineup
Randall Flagg
If we're going shootout specialist only, give me Al Kotalik all day any day, that right leg kick backhand shelf sh*t was sexy. I'll pose the board a question, if Vanek was never a Sabres, would you be interested in him then? You're asking if I'd be interested in a guy who finished top 10 in points per sixty, at even strength (unlike what I thought earlier today)? ;)
