If Brannstrom got a thread why not Lukas Rousek.  Thought he might turn into a decent bottom six player but he never seemed to make the jump.  Too passive and consistently turned down prime scoring opportunities to defer to teammates.  Granted those players usually were better shooters but he had point blank scoring chances that he opted to drop pass.

A good AHLer who would get into puck battles and then look to feed his snipery linemates. The last three seasons he was a top five Amerk scorer: 4th (2nd in assists), 5th (1st in assists), and 1st (1st). Best fortune to him in the SHL.

And then there was one. Ryan Johnson is now the sole remaining player in the Sabres organization from JBott's 2019 draft class.

Yeah, probably best for him. Didn't make the jump is the perfect way to phrase it.  But hey, not every late round pick is going to be an Olofsson.

Byeeeee Lukas.

Exactly, he got a cup of coffee up in Buffalo.  Not everyone even gets that.

With the amount of higher-end prospects we have in Rochester I was always a bit annoyed every time he got a call-up. I always felt we should get getting our blue-chip prospects NHL experience so they could figure out what to work one when they get sent back down to the AHL. Calling up Rousek was a wasted development opportunity for higher end talent, imo.

He was on an expiring contract.  They needed to look at him to determine if it was worth another contract.  It just so happens he made that decision for them.

As it turns out, and without doing any deep analysis, that draft class sucked for most teams.

Or maybe they told him he wasn't getting an NHL contract.

Yup.  That too.  And they needed to see where he was at before the decision could be made.

Agree.

Think about it in these terms: About 8100+ players have played at least one NHL game since 1917.

The fact that he got that cup of coffee in the NHL puts Rousek in elite company when you really think it through.

He wasn't getting another NHL contract. This year which was the second of his deal was 1 way so he was getting 775 K to play in Rochester. I think they had intentions of bringing him up but he may have been hurt or playing hurt in the early part of the season. Kozak came up instead and they were happy enough with him to make Rousek expendable. He was a very good passer and Sabres could have used that. I am not sure how his skating meterics are but Kozak does have NHL speed so it may have been a matter of just a guy climbing over him on the depth chart.

I just saw this on Puckpedia, and I was surprised.  I’ve seen the Sabres give Brett Murray and other Career AHL guys a minors salary of $350k but $775k/one way is just another bad decision by Adams in spending. Nothing about his game screamed one way.  So if presented a decision to make $250-350k (??) with the Americans vs the SHL where he can make what, $250k max, and no real chance of a call up to earn more what does this say about the organization?

That's rhetorical right?

Yeah.  I’m trying to do the math though to see how large of an indictment it is on Adams.  The smaller his salary, the bigger the problem is.

Nobody wants to stay….despite what they may say publicly.

He didn’t have to stay. He’s unrestricted and would be free to sign anywhere in the league in July. This woe is me “because buffalo” response to every single thing needs to stop.

A marginal European talent decided to go back to Europe. He’s not leaving Buffalo, he’s leaving the entire NHL.

Exactly.  That's what I'm saying.  Yes, he could sign with anyone but if the Sabres told him he wasn't getting another contract (and his agent couldn't stir anything up) it was time to go.

He is a 6th round Euro player that played in North America for four years,  He was a decent AHL player that had 17 games in the big league.

He gave it a good shot.  Every team has this.

Best wishes to him in the future.
