The level of inexperience amongst jet ski operators -- in areas where there are lots of them -- is astonishing to me. I feel like it's a situation that is begging for regulation (licensing). But there's too much money being made for the fun to be reeled in.

Also, lol at the Belichick joke. I would not put it past him.

A “did you know” for locals…NYS requires a boater license for anyone to operate a motorized watercraft in NYS.  This is new and there was a grace period to get licensed. By 2024, anyone operating on the water in NYS is required to have a boater’s license (waverunner and jet ski included). I doubt this happened in NY, but hopefully stuff like this is minimized in NYS going forward.

Not a license, a boater safety certificate.  Sit through a full day course and then take a test.  You are then good forever.  (There is currently no plan for the certification to expire.)  And it won't just be for motorized watercraft; sailors will need to have the certification as well.  (Believe about the only exceptions are rowboats and paddle boards.  Essentially if the watercraft doesn't need to be registered in NYS and doesn't tow anything/anyone, you don't need to have the certification to operate it.  Don't have a copy of the booklet that came with the course handy or could've said exactly what craft don't require it.  And there are some carveouts on the other end of the spectrum as well.  Most commercial operators don't need the certification because they're registered under Federal regulations and a couple others classes don't either because of the licensing / training those operators have to go through is significantly more rigorous than the new NYS Parks and Recreation (and Historical Preservation) certification program is.)

Many people have already been required to do this as minors looking to operate a non-commercial watercraft have had that requirement for several years.

Believe there will still be a carveout for people renting boats / jet skis provided the shop renting the equipment out makes the operator sit through a much shorter spiel.  And provided it is for a "short term" rental.

Not a license. A certificate.

I just bought 2 sea doos this week with a nice trailer. Got them registered and I can take the boat safety corse online. It's 30 bucks with unlimited cracks st the test. Seems wimpy for how much HP those things have on the water. They're fun, but I see people wreck all the time (mostly because they don't realize you need to throttle to turn) so they just end up smashing into whatever is in front of them.

this would be smart by the bills

I’m not inclined to agree. For the amount of times the Bills hand the ball off, I think investing more money into the position is a bad move. I get that the Bills need to get Josh out of running the ball, but this team is going to win by attacking defenses in the passing game.  James Cook, Damien Harris, and Latavius Murray will be more than sufficient.

I'm not sure about your specifics (Murray is a ? to me) but I agree w/ the general sentiment.  I'm much more concerned about WR2 than about KR/RB2.

Saquon Barkley's 1-year deal notwithstanding, the dark clouds just continue to gather over NFL RB's. It's pretty astonishing how bottomed out the value of that position is. (I'm looking above at the tweet re Dalvin Cook out there begging for a deal.)

If you're a 15 year-old soon to be blue chip recruit in Florida - and your HS coach has you playing RB and DB (I assume that elite football prospects still play on both sides of the ball (??)) - and Florida State comes calling - you and your family are definitely asking to be recruited as a DB, not a RB, right?

That’ll start to happen.  Best athletes (other than QB) switched to edge and LB a while back.  Obviously you can’t mention best athlete without mentioning WR.  I feel like 25-30 years ago the best athletes on offense started transitioning to WR.  Calvin Johnson, David Boston, DK Metcalf, Randy Moss.  Just freaks of nature.

NFLN just had a graphic showing all the top RB's who will be UFA's after the 2023. Like 10 of them and all top names. Showdown coming.

Maybe some readjusting of the cap by position. Yeah, I know...it's a pipe dream but after seeing Heberts new deal with the Chargers, it will soon be star QB's make 30-40% of the cap, surrounded by mostly 1-2 year contracted players with modest pay. Then touching that QB will equal a fine or suspension. Flag football coming if they don't change things. Too unbalanced.

Thing is - I don't think there will be a showdown. The war is over, for now.

It does feel like something's got to give. Of course, that is greatly complicated by the fact that the NFLPA is a weak union.

I don't mean the leadership, per se. I mean the union's members. There's just so many of them - especially as compared with other pro sports. A large majority of the members do not have it in them to take a strong stand against ownership. They need to get what they can now, here and now. The absence of contract guarantees -- in the pro sport that is the most brutal and debilitating -- still blows my mind.

I just want the Bills to make the playoffs with a healthy status. Physically amd mentally.

No sportsbook in Vegas is making them a favorite this year and the schedule looks far more challenging. Press looking for their next darling team to hype. The Jets and San Fran look like the new paper champs of the summer lovefest. Whatever.

I have a new window sticker on my car. Throwback Bills helmet with the phrase " Underestimate Us. That'll Be Fun. "

Same.

Last year seemed jinxy from the get-go -- with every outlet and sports book pegging the Bills as the favourites.

And honestly, if Von Biller doesn't mess up his knee, who knows how things shake out. (Well ... the Offence would still have shat the bed against the Bengals in the divisional round. So there's that.)

Being off the radar is always better. I'm looking forward to a fun season.

man, i already told you. it's an homage not a ruse.

does anyone who's a regular here think i'm actually from/living in temiskaming shores? or before that bobcaygeon? or before that medicine hat?

speaking of which, i'm open for a new canadian locale to designate as my sabrespace "home" (houme?). there are so many good options. i got my current one by opening my weather app's radar page, scrolling north, and noodling around for cool names.
