Any backstory on that?

And any interest in taking a flyer on him?  If Sobotka somehow ends up on LW rather than the 4C, could have a completely new set of LW's from last season.

Not for 3 years of him. I'd rather start Asplund in Buffalo then deal with 3 years of Smith's contract.

That thing is terrifying and it's the price you pay for having a nickname like that along with the quintessential 1960's logo.  There isn't an easy leap to make to a mascot.  The easiest is to a bird like creature or a 1910's barnstorming aviator but neither of those exude the image they want for the Flyers so they went to the Insane Clown Posse's version of the Phillie Phanatic.

God Bless Sabretooth.

They should have embraced all things Philly and made the mascot a giant 9 volt battery.

@TheFourthPeriod
Boucher made it clear the Smith/waivers decision was from up top. Seems quite clear the Sens tried to rid themselves of Smith's $3.25M annual salary.

Melynk doing everything possible to make the Sens as attractive/cheap of a purchase to potential buyers.

That's crazy because it would have been convincing that he just isn't an NHL player anymore at that cap hit, but no, it had nothing to do with hockey and came from Eugene

MoBREAKING: #NHLDucks Executive Vice President and General Manager Bob Murray said Corey Perry had surgery today to repair meniscus and MCL injuries. His recovery timetable is set for 20 weeks, or about five months.

Thus ends the career of Corey Perrry

I mentioned it in the GDT but you're the first to put it in the right place.

Seriously brutal. 4th in Norris votes last year, and knees are scary

It was chronic knee issues that prematurely ended the career of arguably the best player in the history of the NHL.  Scary, indeed.
