More from LeBrun

LeBrun: Canadiens "are still in on Ryan O'Reilly. So are the St. Louis Blues, among other teams. St. Louis and Montreal in particular have continued this week to keep in touch with Buffalo on Ryan O'Reilly." #Sabres #Habs #stlblues 1040

Without #3 overall they have absolutely nothing I want

That Montreal deal absolutely makes sense to me, in terms of value.

Pick 11, a second and a prospect fits with the comparables we’ve discussed.

One wonders what the next step would be for Botterill in terms of addressing the hole at centre ice, but the cap space and glut of young assets created by an O’Reilly trade certainly puts us in a good position to make more acquisitions, which Imwould hope would be the plan.

As to what’s next, perhaps there are prospects (Bellows?) that can be substituted for the picks that can allow the deal to be rebuilt.

We're in for such a longer rebuild of Botterill was about to make that trade. I have a strong feeling he's looking at Dahlin and his 2nd year here as the start to the rebuild, while the rest of us were really hoping this was the end of it

I've seen a couple people on twitter conjecture that  there was probably more in there in terms of actual players coming the Sabres way as well. but who knows.

Let's be real though.

No one knows what the Sabres were getting in that deal.  The news regarding anything with the Sabres seems to come from sources close to OTHER teams.

That said, there's enough conversation on O'Reilly that I believe he's going to get moved.  I can't imagine he's going to be overly motivated next season playing for a team who is just waiting for the right deal.

To me the whole thing sounds like it is written from the Montreal prospective.  We would have done this and that... completely ignoring any thoughts from the other teams.

Yup. Sounds like Montreal thought a #11 and a #33 pick was good enough to get ROR which is ridiculously hilarious.

That’s not what the article says.

It says there was a deal in place for 11 or 12 and a couple other picks.

Value-wise pick 11 might not be a high enough pick for you, but it is certainly not ridiculously hilarious as a centrepiece, if you compare it to the centrepiece return on other similar trades.

Agreed.

The Sabres do not have to get desperate and just deal Ryan at this time. Even if the Sabres keep him, perhaps there will be a deadline type deal. Ryan can still play. And do a lot well.

11, Gallagher, Mete, and Pacioretty. I might trade you ROR now.

I would prefer to send ROR to St Louis to keep him out of the division and ensure that Montreal would still suck!!!

Wait till after July 1st when trade value should increase because we would have paid bonus.

Could Buffalo get Parayko and Schwartz for ROR, Bogo, and San Jose 1st??

Could then turn around and trade Risto, Baptiste, and Larsson to Edmonton for RNH and Benning.

New look for Sabres...

Schwartz, Eichel, Reinhart

???, RNH, Okposo

???, Mittelstadt, Pomminstein,

Girgensons, ERod, Bailey

Scandella, Dahlin

Guhle, Parayko

McCabe, Benning

Not sure you can get all of that from the Blues. However, this type of movement is the only way I can think of that trades ROR and also may improve this year's team. Otherwise, I'd rather they sign a center to play ror's defensive minutes (AND KEEP ROR) and look for a few 1-2 year FA Band-Aids on the wings.

Agree. I want to improve THIS year's team period.

I bet ROR doesn't get moved. I bet other GM's are assuming they can get him for less than his true value, due to the comments he made. However, as we know, the interpretation is probably quite overblown.

The fact that he's generating so much interest in something for us to be pretty positive about, though.

I get JBot wanting to hold onto ROR to give Mitts sometime to grow in this league. It also allows Eichel to improve defensively.  But I think you just have to move ROR and let Eichel and Mitts be your top two and get a true #3 in here to be the defensive, face-off, PK specialist.

I do believe we have a solid core group on D.

McCabe, Risto

Scandella, Dahlin

Guhle, Nelson/Bogo

Definitely need a goalie- ???

But JBot said he was going to improve the forwards and add speed, where is this coming from unless we move ROR.

I'd even take Schwartz, Jaskin and 2020 2nd rd pick for ROR.
