Now... food porn... let's see what you've got.

My uncle was a restaurant consultant for most of his career. One thing he would hammer with his clients (restaurateurs): Never photograph the food.

Now, this was years ago (like, late 70s, 80s, into early 90s), so maybe the technology has changed. But I'm not so sure there's really much of a difference. The ability to take a good picture of food is still so tricky. For example, in the photo you posted, that whipped cream looks more like cottage cheese (yuck (not to cottage cheese generally, but to its use with strawberry shortcake)).

One of my college roommates was a food photographer. As in, those delicious looking photos you see in ads/on menus. You've probably heard stories about McD's painting their buns and tomatoes to look more appetizing, assistants melting the cheese just so with heat guns.. it's all so true, and more.

I came home to a cereal shoot one day on our kitchen table. Well, milk doesn't have the right... sculpting.... consistency. So she was instructed to use a certain brand of men's shampoo! There were strings hanging from the ceiling suspending cereal for that perfect motion shot... She was always trying to trick the other housemates and I into eating her delectable looking reference subjects. Ice cream, for instance. It is best photographed when made entirely out of lard and confectioner's sugar with food coloring, so it holds together/doesn't melt during the shoot.

Unless you're a place like Friendly's, for example- then you have to use your own product. Those photo studios have sub zero freezers on set and three minute long shooting windows. I learned a lot from her... and now I never look at food photog and go "oh god yum". I laugh at photographers hand "grill marking" steaks in skillets and impaling bananas on armatures.

But yeah, it's amazing how much effort it takes to make food look "good". At least professionally haha

I'm guessing a Cereal shoot looks something like pi2000's avatar.

I actually have a perfect photo I wanted to post of me -- in the same exact pose as pi's avatar, but I'm wearing a monkey costume from the Bloodhound Gang's Bad Touch music video.  But it would have been too much for y'all to handle.

Here's a couple pictures from a recent ride down south.

Those are great pics! I NZ offers up some pretty spectacular scenery.

The scenery is awsome!

But I eye-spied a BMW(?). There is more to this than a casual drive in the country me thinks.

The exhaust doesn't look right for a BMW (it'd be an F800, I think). It looks adventure-y though; maybe an SV1000 (err, I meant V-strom) or the Ducati adv bike.

Not sure either. I can see what appears to be engine foot/guards and thought adventure touring. So I was assuming the BMW because I am least familiar with them of the adventure bikes. I thought I could spot the Yamaha/KTM/Triumph models.

Outstanding!  That song cracks me up.

Nope.

That's my 1050 Triumph Tiger. Awesome bike for our riding conditions down here.

If I were buying a bike today, it'd probably end up being some sort of adv. I do a little too much  gravel and dirt for my street bike's own good.

This isn't Fontana, but it's not far away from it!
