Draft day thread

I appreciate that this thread is about the Sabres, but I was looking over the whole draft this morning and ...

... under the rich get richer heading ... Detroit picked Martin Frk with the #49 pick. Frk plays for Halifax in the Q, therefore I am very familiar with him. He will be a good one.

I've heard/seen multiple mentions over this draft mentioning the new scouts which led to some of these picks.

Maybe they just read Sports Illustrated, Pierre McGuire had the top 2 Sabres' picks listed as his top 2 "Wild Cards" in this year's draft.

I'd like to read that but can't find it. Share a link?

I have it delivered. I looked on the website and couldn't find it. It's in this weeks edition page #38.

He basically says:

Grigorenko - Concerns over his intensity will cause him to fall in the middle of the draft.

Girgensons - Needs to mature physically.

Like Ghost said, his body looks like that of a 25 year old. Hard to believe that "needs to mature physically" is his one draw back.

He looks really strong for an 18 year old but he'll need to continue bulking up if he wants to be a physical presence in the NHL where everyone is big. Plus, everyone (not just pro athletes) gets thicker and stronger as they move from teenager to adult (even while staying in shape) so some of it is just going to be time.

As for Grigorenko, obviously some of his 'intensity' issues were due to the mono but I'm guessing some of them were due to being in a totally new country and trying to learn two new languages and fit in during his first QMJHL season (all as an awkward teenager, BTW).

It was written by Pierre McGuire....

Finally got internet in the new apartment so this is a little late...

But I'm glad you said this TrueBlue because while watching round one and hearing Pierre say "The sabres dont have depth anywhere they need help in center, on defense and in net" I just laughed. Its amazing he has a job. I feel like he just talks h]out of his ass for the most part. That and tries to get in the Penguins pants every opportunity he gets.

Besides defence, in Rochester he is correct. They don't have much NHL caliber depth in the minors at C and Goaltender.

I know I'm not a DR supporter, but surveying the landscape of other GM's makes me have some moments of "at least I'm not an __________ fan." As such, I found this to be hilarious: according to the Columbus Post-Dispatch, the Islanders reportedly offered the Blue Jackets their ENTIRE slate of 2012 draft picks to move up from #4 to #2. And Columbus...turned them down. I'm not sure which side is more hilarious/tragic.

...wow.

If that's true, and since it's the Islanders, well, it's pretty likely that it is, I'm with you: neither team knew what they were doing with this one.
