I've been forced to access that dark region of my brain these past few months since I've become involved again with a cell culture project.

 

Tastes great; lower serum! (I think only CV will get that one.)

Soooo, I am supposed to in Canada right now but I was denied entry due to some misdemeanors from 13 & 18 years ago. It was extremely embarrassing as I was traveling with coworkers and they had to drop me off on the US side and head back over to their destination. I was seriously worried (and still am) about repercussions from work as I still am awaiting the move to my new promotion. My boss signed off on my expense report for the rental car home so I think everything is ok but I still feel uneasy.

I was only denied entrance to Canada one time. We were teenagers going to Crystal Beach. The agent asked if we all had shirts, and crazily enough some kids didn't. They turned us around and told us we couldn't go. They were just being pricks. Never ever ever heard of such a requirement.

Any who, so I tried to cross the border them 10-12 years ago and they didn't like my answers at the border and took me into immigration. Since this thread has gone into OT, I will give my 2 cents Canadian on this.

 

It is clear to me that those aweswome calves were NOT visible.

 

If they were they would have had our friend in the back - back room for a full naked search. If for no other reason than just to get a better view of thsoe awesome calves ... ;)

 

Seriously though it may be just as simple as this ...

 

... you yanks have been making it more problematic for us Canadians to cross into the US ... passports required etc ...

 

It may be a bit of retaliation from a Canadian Boarder Services agent that wants to make a name for themselves.

Yeah, somehow I missed that too. Thanks Swamp! Shame there's no PS3 app so I could watch on the TV without attaching a computer. Maybe I'll get around to that media PC one of these days.

How likely is it that work was aware of these misdemeanors anyway? Is it they type of place that would have done a background check?

It presents in several ways, but the primary concern is effectively a defective valve which results in a hole between the left and right ventricles. The problem with this is that not all the blood gets pumps through the lungs, so CO2 levels tend to be elevated and 02 can be low. Fortunately, the malformation can be surgically corrected with relatively high success, and post correction quality of life expectations are completely normal. Olympic Snowboarder Shawn White had the same condition and surgery. My nephew had his surgery yesterday because his defect was making it difficult to eat and gain weight. The heart correction went extremely well, according to the surgeon. Afterwards, however, as they were closing him back up, they could not get him to breathe on his own. As a result they had to go back in, and as soon as they opened his chest up again, his lungs started working. They figure the swelling from the surgery, combined with his tiny chest, just made too much pressure for his lungs to overcome. So they had to leave his chest open, through this weekend. He'll be in critical condition at Golisano Children's Hospital for at least the next 5 days. Meanwhile, his parents can't even touch him due to the infection risk.Heart surgery on an infant is stressful enough without complications, his parents have been incredibly strong through this entire ordeal, but are understandably shaken after seeing their son lying there with a hole in his chest. Sometimes I think I have problems. I don't.

I work on research studies that deal with similar heart conditions for infants. The stuff the surgeons can do is absolutely amazing, but the whole topic is so depressing.

I really do have to vent (c'mon...all of you knew I'd eventually say something!).

 

Because I'm in networking and telecommunications, a lot of my work relies on Verizon's ability to actually get something done. I don't know how that company is still in business when they take their sweet ol' time fixing things while we're losing business because their stuff is broken. The worst part is that we don't deal directly with them - we have to go through a WAN provider that contracts them to provide data circuits to our locations.
