Terrible news on Benson. 

Why all the banter on Rosen or who they call up?   No one in Rochester is replacing Benson.

He’s played 71 and 75 games his first two years. This year’s initial injury was from a puck to the face. He has not proven to be injury prone.

I know you mentioned the word “package”, I’ll spare you my usual rant about the proliferation of said “trade packages”.  If the team wants to make changes, it’s needs to start with Power or Byram.  I doubt Östlund is much more than the equivalent of a 2nd rounder.  So if the Sabres “trade package” includes Power and Östlund, I can’t imagine Noah elevates the package much.

Benson seemed to slow down the last few games, the effort was there but the burst was not. Hope  he comes back strong.  

That is hockey, so now it is time for Isak Rosen to get a look.  

Hey All,  Hockey DB has a new picture and updated data on Rosen.  He is now listed at 6'0 tall and 185 lbs - proof that these kids keep growing after the draft. I think he has listed at 5'10 and 160 pounds at one time.    In addition his skin cleared up and his beard is coming in.   

He looks much more mature than my past memory of his picture.  He also has 5 goals and 12 points in 8 games so far.   

Maybe, just maybe, he will show something on this call up.  I am rooting for him!

Doesn't matter if it gets you over the finish line. GMs don't do well with asset management across the board.

The news of Rosen's recall preceded the news of Benson going to IR.  The original post was only about the Rosen recall and had no mention of the Benson IR move (it was merged/updated later), hence the banter on Rosen.

He's one of the top scorers in the AHL. It'd be nice to see him show some tenacity, adapt to the play speed, and show off his shot. Put Quinn on notice.

5-11 161# draft measurables, per Central Scouting (obviously with CS ymmv -- they had originally listed Olofsson at 5-7 instead of the 5-11 which he was at the time of drafting).

He is small and young. They expect too much too soon. 

The good thing is he doesn't give a F and plays with an edge. It's who he is. The failure is in the Sabres' expectations and development. A kid that age needs to be brought in a little slower and needs time to build up his body. Dude, he's still growing. Not in height but in muscle and strength. 

I remember back when I was 20 I was a tall skinny dude from stretching through my teens. Lifted weights and worked out and my chest, shoulders, arms, all bulked up and expanded. When I was 22/23 I remember looking in a mirror and realizing, oh wow, I'm a pretty big guy. It's no different for pro athletes. It's also no accident that that's why they head into their peak years in their mid 20s. 

You forget, because he's been playing for 2 years, that he is still very very young.

I think the "something better" is the question. Who? 

What the idea advocates is futures for a present. What team is looking to unload a present player for a future package? We got McLeod that way because Edmonton was cap squeezed and knew they wouldn't re-sign him either for that reason. They ditched Arvidsson this year to shed cap as well. So which team wants to shed cap right now? I doubt there is one. 

This sort of deal might be possible before the deadline as a team wants some sort of cap relief to land somebody else but I doubt it's overly easy to make a good deal right now.

I'm not the one who said "he's injury prone". I was defending him. I do think however that he can get injured easily because of his age and size. It's not a surprise. I think we have been lucky so far with him.
