Rooting for winds or losses?

  1. 1. One week into the season, do you actually want this team to win to turn it around or lose so they make changes?

    • Win tonight.

I'm just curious where everyone is on this right now.

Ultimately most of us want the team to win but...

I can understand some people wanting as many losses in a row right now, because they think that this team will never be good without major changes, and we need to get to those changes quicker.

Can't see themselves to ever root for a loss ever.

I just thought a poll might be interesting to see where we are right now.

To answer my own poll, I'd say I want them to win tonight, but tonight's game might be the biggest swing game of the season in getting me to change my vote.

If they lose tonight, it's going to be really hard to look anything positive at this season at all.

But let's say they win tonight, by multiple goals, and look really good doing it. I'll be able to convince myself, at least temporarily, yeah, they can turn this around.

Rooting for your team to lose is embarrassing.  Just don’t.

And limiting the poll options to just those two reasons sucks.  If those are going to be the reasons, just shorten the options to, just win, or lose.

This.

I'm cheering for them to win.

Changed it to just win and lose.

If people want to explain the reasons why, I guess they can do so in the thread by posting.

I understand the concept, but to many people you're just rooting for the Jersey to a large extent.

If the players aren't good enough, and some people legitimately don't like the management, or the ownership, or both, then it's not really your "team" to them, but rather some unlikable imposters that are temporarily filling in that role.

I guess that's a long way of saying the team to some people isn't just the name or the Jersey, it's everything and everybody that encompasses it... And if you don't like a large part of that, I could see not rooting for it or them.

Especially if you have a strong opinion that those people temporarily failing allows the organization to hire other people to make your team better.

The reason I thought this was a good time for a poll... It seems like there's a lot of people that are openly rooting for chaos. I'm not 100% there yet, but I could thoroughly understand wanting massive change to this team being more important than a win to move you to 1-3 on the season. If someone feels that way I don't find it embarrassing at all.

This sort of question has been posed before -- specifically here and generally elsewhere.

From the standpoint of typing a post to a message board on a weekday morning, I can feel that desire for the current enterprise to just totally fall apart -- let them get outshot 42-18 by effin' Ottawa, let the full weight of the failure come crashing down on Adams' (and Pegula's) heads.

But once warmups start, once the puck drops, I want them to win. Full stop.

There's a silo effect, imo.

As PASabresFan would say, rooting for the jersey is the way.  The players, coaches, GMs, trainers, etc come and go.  The jersey is always there.

Until it isn’t.

I dont want a win... I want a Stanley Cup... not even a first round playoff exit... In my opinion, this will not happen until the Front office is gutted and an Adult professional GM with credibility and competence is not only hired but given the keys, hire their own staff, assess the team and takes an appropriate course.....  (not that this is ever likely to happen). This to me is the only way out of this abyss... and the only way this is going to happen is if Terry is handed an absolute cluster of losing, defections, attendance issues, negative press, maybe a Billboard (its worked before LOL) and potentially even league intervention in so much as them saying Dude, you have to do something... your zipper has been down for 14 years and we have to tell you that the Henrietta Hippopotamus underwear you are wearing is a bit juvenile.... so... your gonna need to zip up... oh, and you have a bit of a hanger on coming out of your nose... its been there a while....   its a lot to ask... but a short term win doesnt help us out here...

For this team, nothing would make me happier than a winning streak. Wins are more important than Kevyn getting fired (even if they are not mutual exclusive).

Agreed.  I try to watch every game I can, and when they suck its much more painful.

I just cannot root for anything but a win.  Do preseason results matter in hockey or football?  Not really, but I still want to see my team win those games.  I’ll always root for them to win.  If the results don’t come, there’s nothing to be done.  If the results don’t come, someone with a much bigger stake in the team will make the decisions independent of my on-line snark.

They SHOULD be able to get themselves ready to play the Otters.  Then again they should've been able to get themselves ready to play opening night and in Beantown.

The one game they didn't have any built in animosity for the opponent (unless the embarrassment of blowing 4 and 3 goal leads last year built animosity) is the one game they came out ready to play (at least for the 1st 30 or so minutes).

Beat the d*mn Otters and then worry about the next one.

I know I actually want them to win. If it's going to go South, let's get nuts so we can blow the whole thing up (not enough to lose Dahlin, Thompson, etc.  but KA has to go)

Always root for/want the sweater to win.

I understand the desire of losing to force this organization to make serious changes

Its sad that like others here I don't have any expectations this group of owner, management and or coaches can or will get it done correctly.
