Lindy Ruff, reintroductory press conference 1pm, 4/23/2024
Eli Cash replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I am a big Lindy fan. Admittedly, it’s a little strange to see him back with the Sabres after all this time. But, very happy to see it. As he stated, he knows what it is like when this team is playing games that matter. There is no doubt in my mind that he will get this team to a place where they are playing into May. He might not be the guy that gets this team to a place where they are playing into June. We’ll see. Nevertheless, a proven pro has entered the chat. -
Who will be the next Head Coach of the Buffalo Sabres?
Eli Cash replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
It’s astonishing how quickly the players appear to universally admit that the work ethic was not there. Glad GMKA made the move, but FHCDG doesn’t deserve his former subordinates throwing dirt on his grave. -
Could Adams have done this better this year? Most certainly. Really seems like it comes down to ownership though. Team was able to sell hope going into this season. What are they selling going into next season? Another head coach? A new GM? A retread or no-name won’t move the needle. Only thing that would spark my imagination is a proven front office executive who is empowered to remove the stench of futility from the organization. Short of that, hard to imagine there is a free agent splash or big name/big salary in the offing. I don’t want TP to sell. I just want him to show that he cares just even a little about the team that means so much to all of us.

Denver dominated for ten minutes in the second. In the third, it felt like BC would never break through. And they didn’t. Almost entire season at the top of the heap. Heartbreaker for those kids.

Kevyn and Don, should we really expect more after four years?
Eli Cash replied to tom webster's topic in The Aud Club
Not pulling UPL after the third goal last night is when I gave up on Granato. UPL has been a revelation this year. He deserved better, and the team clearly needed a shakeup. There are only 30 of these jobs. GMKA should be able to find the right one for this team. Right?!?! Or is it TP that finds the coach? If that’s the case, this team is officially screwed. -
This is correct.

I won’t let facts get in the way of my irrational rant. Haha.

I am positive Lindy knows more about assembling a winner than anyone that has been in the front office since 2013. Maybe GMKA is a genius, and just totally inhibited by Terry. There’s probably a good chance of that. However, I think Ruff brings more gravitas than KA, and certainly the rest of the clown show that has occupied upstairs since Regier’s departure.

Do we have to wait until the offseason to recognize Adams as Executive of the Year? Pretty impressive roster construction. How did he ever manage to steal Comrie away from the rest of the league? Pegula should sign Adams up to a lifetime contract before someone tries to poach him from this organization. -
Fire Don and Adams before the horn sounds tonight. Hire Ruff as President by midnight. Give him carte blanche for tomorrow’s deadline. Tear it down again, but this time with someone who knows what he is doing. First player traded should be whomever thought up that stupid stick salute protest. This group of players has the intestinal fortitude of a grape.

Team has been circling the drain since 2011/2012 season. Only one head coach during this period of remarkable futility has left Buffalo to be the head guy for another team. Lindy would be the best head coaching hire since…Lindy. That doesn’t mean the Sabres should hire him. The last time the team reached back to former glory (Pat LaFontaine) didn’t work. But, at least it would be interesting. This team is aggressively uninteresting.

For so many reasons, I am happy fighting is on the fringe of NHL games. I wouldn’t hate some old time hockey tonight though. -
This team endured an insane amount of injuries. They fought to the end. I love being a Bills fan. But, please, win it all before I die.
-
Vrabel does concern me. However, that team is largely devoid of offensive talent. And, the defense is good, but I think that can be attributed to Belichick. I expect the Patriots will be a mess for a few years. Think that mess could have been avoided if Kraft/Belichick agreed to a truce where Bill coached and someone new signed free agents/drafted. I need the Patriots to be bad for a good long while. It’s finally fun to be a Bills fan in Boston.
-
Nice to see Belichick leave New England. Terrible GM, but still an awesome coach. No way Patriots are a significant threat anytime soon.

Remember when Sabres were appointment viewing in ‘05/‘06 and ‘06/‘07? My now-wife was dumbfounded that I needed to watch every game. There’s 82! Plus playoffs! I still watch as many as I can, but now it’s often background. Like a baseball game. And, my wife need not worry about playoffs.

Lifting spirits: Tell us about your best sports day!
Eli Cash replied to Spoonman's topic in The Aud Club
Game 3, ALDS, 2021, Fenway Park. At the last minute, I bought two tickets to a Sox playoff game in 2021. Boston Public Schools had finally fully reopened. The Boston Marathon was that weekend. And, for the first time in over a year, the City felt like it had a heartbeat again. When my son and I first sat down, our seats were right behind a pole in the grandstand. Terrible seats. In the third inning, I wondered how long we could last in such insanely bad seats. I then looked at our tickets and realized we were sitting in the wrong section. While our new section wasn’t amazing, we weren’t sitting behind a pole. Crowd was electric all game. Christian Vasquez hit one over the Monster to win it in extras. My son jumped into my arms, and Fenway exploded. We walked home that night. As we made it back to Charlestown, we walked by the finish line on Boylston. When we got home, we watched the Bills beat the Chiefs on Sunday night football. Best sporting day of my life. -
We are so lucky to be watching a player like Josh Allen. Just a special talent. However, between the absurd officiating and that oh-so-familiar collapse at the end, that might have been one of the biggest guts punches we witnessed. Cannot waste another year of Allen. McDermott has to go.

Do you root for different teams for different sports and why?

I am a Sabres, Bills, Red Sox and Celtics fan. Grew up in WNY. Parents had Boston ties. I now live steps away from TD Garden. -
As a fan, thankful the team has a chance to turn the page four days later. However, Thursday Night Football games feel like London games. A lot of variables to be concerned about.
-
I will be at the game with a 12-year-old Pats diehard. Hoping to covert him by the 4th quarter. Tough sell to someone who is growing up ten minutes from TD Garden.

John Roth COO of the Sabres is no longer with the organization

Incredible lack of diligence in the hiring process. GMKA, HCDG, GMBB, and HCSM seem like good, honest people. But, whiskey tango foxtrot on some of these recent hires.
