  1. I voted bridge not because the potential isn't there but because he has already given out several high dollar long-term contracts. The cap isn't raising that fast for hockey and they will have some other players they will also need to be making these decisions on the next few years. Also noted is the stated need for some veteran help in the forward ranks and and/or a veteran goalie letting Levi mature in AHL. Buffalo seems to pay a premium for that kind of help because it's not the hockey heaven we were promised.
  2. I don't think anyone watching him play last 4 months would disagree with this, just would have been nice to see it a bit earlier in his play to ensure its his new normal.
  3. Looking at those numbers I would say 3.5 to 4 million a year. Closer to 4 on a 3 year and closer to 3.5 annual on a 4-year contract for longer term.
  4. The over and under for the in-game thread tonight is 7.5 pages. Since they are officially out of the hunt, I'd take the under. Although I'm curious if they even have it in them to show up and be a spoiler since that's all they have left really since we have seen they don't play for pride.
  5. I'm in agreement with thewookie on this. I see him consistently playing the 200 ft game and the puck hound the believer pointed out. I could see him falling somewhere in combinations of Martin StLouis, Brian Gionta, and wouldn't mind just a dash more of Brad Marchand.
  6. This is so Buffalo. Not surprised Buffalo leads the world in celebrating it. Pittsburgh has a small polish community, and they had no idea what Dyngus day is.
  7. I admit I like hockey, and it feels like the worst because this is my favorite team. I picked at least bottom 5 because I don't know enough about other teams make up and models, but I do know over half of them play better hockey than this Sabres team which supposedly has talent equivalent to some of the top half teams. I am starting to wonder like the Bills what curse was enacted on this team.
  8. I know I easily went to the low hanging fruit here and also opined change the coach however LGR4GM makes his point with his posts here that it happens above that with the GM/coach combination. I realize it also implies it's really the owner who sets the tone with his organization model and choices for GM. Thorny and PASabrefan have understood and pointed that out many times over the last few years. I loved and it brought a tear to me eye when TP bought the team and marched out Gilbert, his favorite player and promised Hockey heaven. Now it brings a tear to my eye with what he's done giving us Hockey Hell. Mr. Pegula, please sell the team if this is the best you can or are going to do because your heaven is now our Hell.
  9. Well after seeing the score and reading the game blog this am I'm glad to not have been able to watch that. I guess they showed us who a few of us thought they are, too bad it's a bunch of losers. So sad to see this from my favorite team. I am headed into town tomorrow for Easter and thought about possibly checking out one of the 2 games but not with this ***** show. Sabers are like a box of chocolates, never know what you're going to get with this group. Being in Buffalo for both games this weekend on TV will bring me closer to the misery all the longtime fans here have been living. I plan to raise a drink or three during both games to commiserate with my fellow Sabre fans. Long live the dream of Sabre playoff hockey!
  10. The beginning of the end, last 10 game segment for the season. Let's go Buffalo, show us what you got. Interested to see how they handle it. Muddy Water, a spring thing.
  11. In answer to the question, no I don't see it. Definition of aggressive. Making an all-out effort to win or succeed; competitive. I see a move that was made before losing getting anything for someone he knew he wasn't going to keep. I don't consider that being aggressive based on the definition. I say in this case it was slightly above his normal passive wait for it to happen approach.
  12. I am in the NFW group unless a complete coaching clean house is done and replaced with a competent group. Not sure Adams is capable of that though.
  13. My understanding of using that phrase from some of my hockey playing friends is finishing checks, slowing the other players down all over the ice w/o taking a penalty and also sometimes playing a bit dirty but not quite as far as that POS move Scheifele did when he wacked the back of Dahlin's leg just above the skate and had him limping off the ice. I felt if any other Sabre saw that there should have been something said and or done cheap shot for cheap shot especially after the score got out of hand. Tit for Tat.
  14. Actually, got to watch the Sabers Jets game Sunday night here in Pennsylvania on Fubo. It was a close game till 3rd period until their PP and 6k fizzled out. Jets played a heavy game and Sabers looked tired by the halfway point in the 3rd period. Would really help if they could balance the minutes more across their D pairings and forward lines in these multiple games over short # of days. Since I don't get to see many games live, I appreciate all the posters here who highlight their play good and bad. It keeps me reasonably current on the pulse of the team. I hope they show up with one tonight for another Leafs raking. Blow Leafs Blow.
  15. Moist Water, in answer to is water wet and can the Sabers waste another season and lose more fans.
  16. True Dat, TP brought his Penn State and Penguins connections with him. They likely had some influence on what happened with Pat LaFontaine.
  17. I used to post a bit more but mostly lurk the last couple of years. I agree with Thorny's call out list and want to thank all of you for the facts, opinions, information, humor and entertainment. Being an out of towner since 1992, this keeps me pretty current with the team and hockey at large. Last, I also miss seeing/reading posts from Deluca67, X.Benedict, Wonder Bread, Spanchaz, and Dave Dryden.
  18. Great question. Definitely losing interest in following the Sabers with how they have been playing Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde from game to game. Thats a tough act to follow. I used to get Center ice for a few years and watched a lot of teams/games because I do like hockey. Thats why I also follow the Pens locally here and they have been relevant during all these years that the Sabre's have not been (sans last year), so I do love hockey though and I guess why I still do follow the NHL and enjoy the game when its being played right way. What's the right way someone might say. It's a team game and needs the organization to be working together, Front office, Back Office, Coaching and players. I saw that happen here in PGH with Crosby when he was the Kid captain take over the captain reins from Mario and watched him grow into that role and he's perfect example of what a captain needs to be for his team and organization. Still don't see that type of team in Buffalo but know it's the way all the top teams are constructed when you look at the Colorado's, Vegas, Lightning, Florida, Boston, etc. So, I'll keep hockey even if the Sabre's are just a dalliance till, they figure it out...
  19. I grew up in WNY and started following them in the early 70's, yes saw French connection and first SC finals and was hooked, moved away in 1992 and not many options back then to see games unless they were playing the Pens here in PGH until streaming was available. I like hockey and have been to many Pens games and did get to see firsthand their cup winning seasons from 92 on. So, they have become my second favorite team. I admit it's hard to stay invested for my first favorite team when they are so inconsistent and irrelevant for so long. I have become a casual Sabers fan through all that disappointment not allowing myself the frustration they have become on a consistent basis for so many years running now.
  20. A 3-game western road trip against 2 of the top western teams. Here's a chance to see if they really have figured out how they need to play from the start to the end. Let's go Buffalo. Mustache Wax.
  21. Because they know he's coming back.
  22. Moved away in 92. I missed the multiple day after gloom of the last 2 of the 4 super bowl losses. However, I did watch them on TV. I miss: The food; Chivetta's Chicken(@doohickie), Teds Hot Dogs, Andersons, and the many different quality Pizza and Wing joints. Boating (fishing and water skiing) on Lake Erie and the Niagara River. Tobogganing at Chestnut Ridge Park and skiing at Kissing Bridge and Ellicottville. Seeing bands at the Belle Star Lodge and the Continental.
  23. Buffalo born and raised, grew up in Cheek-to-waga. Bills because my grandfather and grandmother introduced me to them in 64-65 watching with them on the old black and white TV. They were huge sports fans mainly baseball and football. Sabre's, because when I started playing pond hockey the French connection was really something to see on tv and we emulated them on the ponds we played on. There was shared ice in our park started by the 1st kids from the neighborhood who shoveled it to create the rink (never quite the same shape). Kids from the hood just showed up regularly and you'd play pickup games. Sometimes 3 on 3 others 7 on 7. Braves, because my best friend played HS basketball and got me interested and who didn't like a little. MCAdoo. interest left me like the Baves left Bflo with Paul Brown selling them off like he did. Bisons; Because my Grandparents followed them and knew every player. They were also Yankee's fans, so I naturally like them as well. College sports: Well, while I teen I caught a few Alabama games on TV with Bear Bryant and still a fan of them today. Oh and of course my alma mater, UB Bulls. Casual fan of a lot of other sports but not really following, Tennis, Golf, MLS.
  24. Finally, another Sabers game I can watch because I live in North PGH. Hope Pens are still feeling the jet lag from their road trip. Let's Go Bflo keep climbing them standings.
