Abhorrent behavior to drive that drunk, especially when you have kids in the car. 2 4 Quote

Carmel Corn Posted September 11 Report Posted September 11 Who else in the organization would take over as Director of Player Development (assuming he is permanently relieved of his duties)? Quote

PromoTheRobot Posted September 11 Report Posted September 11 Adam played in the Kings system in Manchester NH. I watched him a bunch with the AHL Monarchs. Sorry to hear this. Quote
LabattBlue Posted September 11 Report Posted September 11 …but but but he wants to be here. What a knucklehead. Put on leave? What a joke. Should have been fired ASAP. 1 Quote

Andrew Amerk Posted September 12 Report Posted September 12 What an a$$. Thats 10 drinks in your system within an hour. On a Thursday at 430pm when people are trying to get home from work, and buses are bringing kids home. AND he had kids in the car. Should be fired on the spot. And I find it hard to believe this was a one off incident and zero people in the organization had any idea there was a problem. 1 Quote

Presuming his liver functions properly, yes, that would be a reasonable interpretation of the situation. If the medication he's on, or other potential health issues, kept his liver from processing alcohol correctly then he might've had a 6 pack of a double IPA the night before and not realized he was still quite drunk the next day after a full night's sleep. Not excusing his lack of realization of his situation nor stating that your version of the situation isn't in fact the correct one. And understand why the Sabres would place him on administrative leave immediately for this event happening. But will wait to join the tar and feather brigade until after the full facts are known. And thank God that it appears nobody in either car was injured. Bumpers can be replaced; lives, not so much. Quote

That Aud Smell Posted September 12 Report Posted September 12 (edited) Yowza. Blowing a .2 in the afternoon, with kids in the car, is really, really something. (And I'll assume for the sake of this discussion that the breathalyzer was working properly.) Seems safe to say that it's time for Mair to reevaluate his relationship with alcohol (i.e., stop drinking). Edited September 12 by That Aud Smell 2 Quote
Sabres73 Posted September 12 Report Posted September 12 Someone who drives that hammered with three kids in the car has such poor judgement and is so selfish that I would question any decision he ever makes again. Let the courts play out if they must, and let him go after that. Quote

Seems safe to say that it's time for Mair to reevaluate his relationship with alcohol (i.e., stop drinking). As someone who has/had a problem (I hit 20 years sober in January) I would never tell anyone directly they have a problem. Comes off preachy. I can offer insight and observations if asked, but have rarely been. Reality is, people who have a problem don't want others, especially those who have been there, to confirm their suspicions. I gave up the sauce years before settling down and having kids, but I did drive drunk, and it is without question that which I regret most in life. I'm lucky I never injured anyone, including myself, or had to deal with the Police/Insurance/Lawyers. Already been said, but if you are this wasted - ear-lie in the morn, you done got problems, my man. Seek help immediately. If you get clean, maybe you get a second chance with the Sabres. 5 4 Quote

Thanks for sharing this. It was nice to see some understanding and compassion in this thread instead of pitchforks and holier-than-thou perspectives. If he wasnt on company time, and maybe even if we was, Adam Mair doesn’t and shouldn’t be fired. He should get some help and likely therapy because I’m assuming he’s as upset at Adam Mair as everyone else is. 3 1 Quote

Wyldnwoody44 Posted September 14 Report Posted September 14 I got pulled over once, .28 driving one night while I was in medial school. Cop knew that if the university found out, I'd get the boot, so he kindly let me sleep it off in the Tim Hortons I was in front of. Perhaps different times, but I never did that again. I imagine Mair is in a situation where maybe a touch of grace will lead to a change in habits (though 3 kids in the car is hard to swallow) ... And if not, we'll, then the decision comes down very hard. 2 Quote
