For an every day Joe that is fantastic money.  Right now Ryan is that everyday Joe in the NHL.  Almost $2.5M is a lot of money in a game where most never make it this far.  Good for him and good for the Sabres.  I like it.

I sure hope he’s not an every day Joe.  More like a when the flu bug goes around Joe.

I just don't understand this... Ryan Johnson when they first brought him up looked like he could hold his own, he had some mistakes for sure but I thought they'd ride him out and then he never saw the light of day again yet Bryson continues to impress these coaches?

Pretty sure the thing that most impresses the coaches about Bryson is that he is REALLY appreciative of not having to load his own bag onto the team bus and has no thoughts whatsoever about making waves when he's relegated to the pressbox.

That, and they've said they haven't noticed a dropoff in his play when he hasn't been in a game for a long time vs when he's been a regular.  It's like they see him as the absolute ideal #7.  (Too bad his talent is that of an 8 or a 9.)

Yes..... He really is a smart defensively sound kid! He looked good when called up. He never should have been sent back with what we had up here. Not flashy, but steady. That kind of defenseman where you do not hear his name much.

I think he is better than Bryson. His desire to be in the top 6 is probably considered a problem by KA as Bryson is OK on the sidelines hanging with the guys.

I'd imagine 3yr 775K from Buffalo would indicate that even Buffalo doesn't really see him as an NHL player.

I don’t know.  He didn’t impress me at all when Ive seen him play.  This guys screams not good enough to stick to me.  Another Bryson, really.

No he’s barely shown anything to date. Maybe he plays out like Mark Pysyk.  Nothing flashy but does what the job requires.

I hear you.... his sample size is too small i think for a honest opinion. I have liked him since he was in college. Not huge but really smart with angles and very rarely out of position. Would love to see him get a fair shake to see if he was worth the hassle as he almost did not come to Buffalo after college.

Reminds of Ruhwedal.  A guy that looks ok but nothing special.  In the right situation he could build a career.  Of course, there's literally dozens of Ruhwedals every year that don't get the same opportunity and end up going to Europe for a couple of years then come back, settle down, and end up selling cars.

Hope he makes it, because he could easily have left the Sabres high and dry.

The difference between the two is that Bryson REALLY wants to be here (because he knows no other team would take  him).

The whole Ryan Johnson show just screams sunk cost at this point. This is his 7th year in the system (yea, yea, NCAA) and he's still a hopeful reserve? If he was a 3rd round pick, he'd be out of hockey.

He’s been in the pros for two years. Let him continue to cook in Rochester.  He was good in the playoffs.

Agreed.

Johnson needs the heavy minutes in Rochester at this stage of his development.

If this is truly part of Adams roster building criteria, this fanbase is totally screwed.

Anyone spending even a nickel on this franchise, is out of their minds.

I disagree. He played four years of college hockey. Hes played 106 AHL games and 44 in the NHL. He turns 24 in three weeks.

Last season for the Amerks he played big minutes and in all situations, and was on the ice to close games out. He is as ready as it gets. Either he needs to prove his worth with the Sabres - who picked him in the first round, or change organizations and give it a go somewhere else. Either way, the time is now for Johnson to show what he's got. He can't be in the AHL forever.

RyJo’s deal is two way in 2025-26 and one way in 2026-27 and beyond.  This is a realistic timeline for him.  There’s truly no rush to bring him to Buffalo this season. He’s not better than Dahlin, Power, Byram, or Kess. What’s the rush?

Let him continue to cook in all situations in the AHL for another year. Getting to the NHL at age 25 is a very fair development path for a late first round guy. No need to push him to the Sabres today.

Byram won't be back.

Kevy has backed this RFA into a corner and I can absolutely see him on the roster this year.

Is this edit also true?
