Cityo'Rasmii Posted 18 hours ago Report Posted 18 hours ago (edited) Maybe Howdy hurried to give JJP what he wanted? Almost bought a Peterka jersey...made a right choice ha! Edited 18 hours ago by Cityo'Rasmii Quote

It's a production vs projection deal, and Adams was on the wrong side of it (because he claims he's in win now mode). If Kesselring craps out of a top 4 role (like Clifton did), we're looking at a giant bust of a deal. We don't. But unlke Clifton who was (or should've been) a known quantity, this guy is still only, what, 23? He very well could and should be a better hockey player this coming season than he was last season (all other variables being unchanged, which absolutely isn't possible). Personally, can't vote in this poll because if this is the ONLY move Adams makes, then am very unhappy with it. If it's part of a grander package of revamping the roster (yeah, right, but for sake of discussion, let's say it is or at least might be) then even though Adams likely only got ~80% of what Peterka should be worth if the sum whole of the moves these next 2 weeks primarily and all summer end up netting the Sabres a team that can make the playoffs, then cool, the deal was fine. And that isn't looking back on it 10 years later; that's looking back on it 2 weeks to 3 months later. But in and of itself, no, there should have been a better deal out there and per reports there's a pretty decent likelihood there was. Plus, there was no NEED to trade him. He doesn't reach UFA status for 4 (well, now post new contract 5) more years. Quote
Archie Lee Posted 18 hours ago Report Posted 18 hours ago I don’t like the trade, but I would not say I hate it. I am a Sabre fan and by default I am finding things to like about Kesselring and Doan. Legit things to like. I don’t like the trade because I fear it portends what the next moves will be. There has been much speculation on an internal cap. A similar return for Byram and we pretty much have our confirmation. If Adams can move Byram and Quinn and extras for a veteran right shot D and a veteran middle-6 winger, both with playoff bonafides, and find a way to add a veteran goalie who can play 35-40 games as UPL’s partner, I may yet come around on our roster. 3 Quote
Carmel Corn Posted 18 hours ago Report Posted 18 hours ago I wanted a bigger and tougher team. This trade helps. 5 1 Quote

I guess the real heart of the question is, is Buffalo better with this Peterka trade than if they just kept Peterka. I'm not sure because part of me thinks Peterka isn't what we need but part also thinks we didn't get enough. In the end, I might bet well be wrong, in fact it's probably more likely the Sabres are worse off right now than with Peterka. But there's still this part of me that thinks they're better. That non-certainty of it is a good take I hate the deal and I haven’t once said it can’t work or that these players won’t be good. It’s, for me, simply the principle. I know the deal was limited by $ concerns, I know the priority when making the deal wasn’t fully “winning”. The sabres being bad for this long don’t owe us winning. But they owe us doing their best to maximize winning, when they do or don’t make transactions. It’s as simple as that, for me. My stance is the sabres crest and their fans deserve a no stone unturned approach - I believe expecting nothing less on each and every move is very reasonable 2 Quote

Second Line Center Posted 16 hours ago Report Posted 16 hours ago 1 hour ago, ASlugAbove said: The problem is that we have another young, promising, drafted player asking for a trade out. Which lowers value in the trade market too, and thus return. That’s the problem with this trade and why I don’t like it whatsoever. Especially with so many other avenues they could’ve gone with JJ. This is the scary part worst case scenario and why I believe it’s the only reason Adams has a job. We aren’t spending to the cap. Guys from ROR to Reinhart to Eichel asking out and immediately winning Cups. If we’re seen as a toxic organization bc Terry won’t pay or meddles way to much - you can’t survive that because the sad truth is Buffalo is Buffalo compared to every other city it is not at the top of anyone’s list of places to move and start families. Hockey players are not like football players. They have longer careers and have more say in where they want to go - or at least NOT GO. Thanks NMCs. 1 Quote
Jorcus Posted 15 hours ago Report Posted 15 hours ago I voted yes because we were not good last year. I like Peterka but I want the team to win so getting better on defense is certainly what is needed. Now we need a 1st line left wing and a decent backup goaltender and just maybe we can put a good season together. Quote
DarthEbriate Posted 15 hours ago Report Posted 15 hours ago It’s only a small part of the offseason equation and as folks have noted, Kesselring is not an experienced RHD, he’s just the correct model of player they need. But he’s hardly a sure thing and could as easily want out or pride himself out (which would be great… temporarily) by next season. Quote
7+6=13 Posted 14 hours ago Report Posted 14 hours ago Let's go SS. Just voted and saw the results so far. I'm impressed with us. Quote
... Posted 13 hours ago Report Posted 13 hours ago I'm a big believer in character and chemistry and the Panthers are an excellent illustration of how that works. Reinhart wouldn't be the player he is today on Buffalo. The Rat King just fit into that environment like he went home. JJP wasn't a fit here. Okay. There are others still here who don't fit, either. These two new guys seem like good kids, and they've had to work and be patient in earning their opportunities. The value of that is always immeasurable but evident if, or once, the pieces fall into place. If they work out then people will proclaim that Adams finally figured it out and, while we all suffered while he learned on the job, they are happy with the results. Quote
steveoath Posted 9 hours ago Report Posted 9 hours ago Not a hard yes from me. But it addressed one of the biggest needs we have all been screaming for. A solid RHD - I hope for power and not Dahlin though. Still more work to do. And I would’ve liked to have seen the firsts flip. 2 Quote
OrangeSeatVertigo Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago 13 hours ago, Thorny said: If you ran this poll yesterday afternoon and asked if you’d be ok with that return how do we think the poll results read differently right now? be honest Consensus good deal? Like the poll says right now? Right now the poll shows overwhelming win for Adams. Sabres will score about 100 goals next season. mid to high end talent (and their agents) will mainly not want to be stuck in WNY with this organization when other options exist. The Bills went through this for 20 years pre-Allen 1 Quote
caseydean Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Reading the interview of Kesselring, I think I am going to like this a lot. Seems like the kind of players we have been missing and need. But Sabres need a big splash now on a top 6 forward who can score. 2 Quote
WhenWillItEnd66 Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago So i did say i loved the trade. My reasons: - Peterka can score, but he is a defensive liability. His poor stick swipes in our own end actually made me angry at times (Along with the other Sabres that do thaT!) - If you did not notice the Reinhart puss on Peterka's face last year, you knew he wanted out. - IMHO Peterka did not have that right to not want to be here. Get rid of future locker room cancer. We do not need a crybaby in the locker room. - We needed a physical defenseman that plays on the right side. Kesselring looks like he fits that bill and he is YOUNG!!!! - Doan is a player we need more of!!! A tenacious forechecker that can lay the body! On a team full of stick checkers he will be a pleasant change! - This temporarily helps our cap situation and allows KA to get another top 6 forward (Not holding my breath on that one though) OK, on the other side, was this ideal? NO!! Getting rid of a 30 goal scorer is hard, even if he sucked defensively. But Peterka did not want to be here. We got what this team needs to play against grown up teams!! Fingers crossed both of the incoming guys work out! 2 Quote
klos1963 Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago I don't like the fact that we had to make the trade because yet another player wanted out really bad. I think we should have been able to get more for JJ, but what do i know? Quote
JP51 Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Torn... I dont think we got enough... part of me worries we intentionally took less to reduce salary, if we did I hate that... as it bodes nothing but more pain if we are taking that do it on a shoe string tact.... Losing Peterka, I know we all worry about what he will become... I get it... but to me lamenting over players that we sent off doesnt really cut it as long as we became better as a result... I would say we have seen many trades that were neutral or net loss... this on paper is a net loss to me... however, what was JJ like in the locker room... was this a Campbell trade or a Roy trade... did we add by subtracting.... time will tell so if the question is right now, I have to throw this out.. cause we just dont know. Return, although it seems we left assets/return on the table and many of the pundits say we could have gotten more (but really do any of us know) I like the acknowledgement of we need skill that is hard to play against... I think this was clearly a move in that direction... so I cannot disagree with the concept... So right now I am a wait and see mode like you have for most trades... but feet to the fire, I lean yes simply because we need a culture change drastically, the overall team toughness needs to increase by multiples and this trade acknowledges that... Lastly, I hate that we have to find a pairing for our overall No 1 pick in Power... but we do... pairing him with a more physical type Dman may let him do what he does best and my hope is that he can emulate a bit more physicality as well... 2 Quote
GoPuckYourself Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago If anything we got closer to us getting the bullies on the ice that I'm looking for, this is a step in the right direction now are they going to take this all the way? This cannot be it for them, so much more they have to do. Who will partner with Dahlin (That guy shouldn't be on this roster right now)? Who will we get to play goalie (If we stay with UPL/Levi we have no chance)? Who will we get to play in the top 6 (Again that guy isn't on the roster)? Many questions that need answers. Quote

I've stated this in a prior post that what I will be watching is what the organization does with the added cap room? ( @Taro T keenly brought up this issue.) If the owner pockets it instead of utilizing it, then we have our answer about the seriousness of the owner to compete. The question comes down to is whether this is a serious Pegula franchise or a third-rate Micky Mouse unserious Pegula franchise??? 2 1 Quote
Drag0nDan Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago I think they probably could have squeezed a little more value out of the move, but i'm sick of being one of the softest teams in the league. The tage hit is a reactionary thing that no one even reacted to. That is the like.. bare minimum threshold for team toughness and they failed. I'd prefer a team that actually brings the physical nature to the game, and imposes that physicality on their opponent. 1 Quote

This to me is a major major question... in my post I said if we did this to save money.. we have pain ahead... but if we did this to free up money for a big swing.. well then something different. 1 1 1 Quote
