Sabres Trade JJ Peterka to Utah for Defenseman Michael Kesselring and Forward Josh Doan

That’s how I’m taking this trade as a wait and see approach. I think Kulich has an elite level shot as well and will earn more playing time now that Peterka is gone! Let’s all get one thing straight, if Peterka didn’t want to be here then getting rid of him is something that has to happen but the return on the trade is where fans get pissed. Buffalo isn’t a major destination where players want to go and if you don’t know this by now you need help!

One thing I can't stand is how revisionist some media members are. “Well you hated the Savoie trade so shut up” isn’t a good argument.

^99/100 sabres fans

Talk about apples to oranges Harrington.  Fans have wanted to dump prospects for real NHL players for years.  Fans also wanted to move especially from some of the Smaller forward draftees.  What fans didn’t like was getting a 3rd line forward for a top 10 draft pick.

This is completely different trade.  We gave away the better player, an emerging elite forward for decent RHD and a young forward who doesn’t score goals and may only ever be a 4th line forward.  We didn’t get good value for a 23 year 1st line forward.

Also for all Adams moves last year, the team regressed even if McLeod and Zucker played well.

So could this work out? Sure it could, but the team trading away the better player rarely “wins” the deal.

This has merit for UFA’s (for instance, no way in the world Marner or Ehlers signs here) but generally does not with trades, unless the player has a NMC, which most do not.

I know its completely and utterly irrational, but I have this nagging hope that Marner will take his love of the Bills and Josh Allen to the next level and sign with the Sabres.

I'll see myself out.

Oddly enough with Doan, his father, set us on the path of a rebuild by re-signing with Phoenix back in 2010/2011

So maybe now the long nightmare can end?

If Adams had half a brain he’d have josh FaceTime Marner. Josh would do it. Adams isn’t that smart

I think the telling point is how fast Peterka signs the extension with Utah which tells me he either wanted out badly or Kevy was offering low ball garbage money. Utah obviously thinks highly of Peterka as I do.

Kesselring is fine but he's not going to change things in any big way. Doan I know nothing about. I suspect that might mean there's not much to know.

This doesn't get us in the playoffs. Might make us worse.

5 year deal was in place before trade... maybe contigent on trade but reports say it happened before.

Being a top 10 draft pick is irrelevant approximately 1 day after the draft ends.

I think there is a curve with most Sabres transactions. Big time negative reactions out of the box, then once folks analyze what happened, it calms down. But I do recall a lot of "WTF are the Sabres doing" right off on social media over trading Savoie.

It’s true. The more time passes the more the sabres are always revealed to have been in the right. They just have to calm down and analyze what actually happened. The results always speak well - most of the time the fans are just too stupid to realize our GM *has* assembled another team capable of amounting to 78 points and there’s nothing to worry about

That being said, would have loved a pick swap to 4 th or them adding a prospect like Iginla 😛

Then we got both kids of players we were trying to trade for 15 years ago 😄

That’s completely un-true.  Go back and read the articles about the McLeod trade, or every talent pool analysis or every discussion of a player’s career.   The perception at the time of the Savoie trade was that we didn’t get enough for Savoie.

Whether it matters on the ice is a second question, but it amazing how many opportunities former 1st rd picks seem to get such as Jeff Jillson for example.  The truth is it does matter.

What if Dahlin wanted Peterka gone?

Wouldn’t surprise me.

Dahlin must be sick of losing and losers, no matter how talented.

If the 23 yr old 4 yr vet Peterka wasn’t buying into the system and didn’t want to be a Sabre, I would like to believe the 25 yr old 7 yr vet and team Captain Dahlin would have told him goodbye and good luck after asking KA to trade him. Dahlin hasn't worn the C even a year yet. He will grow into the role and get more vocal, my bet.

Not an Adams fan, but agree with him 100%. If a player doesn’t want to be in Buffalo, move him. Think Adams made the right decision about JJP.

The Sabres need to build a roster of players who want to be here, who care about each other, play a hard game standing up for each other, and play with a passion for winning.

Whether it’s hockey or ping pong in the locker room.

The Passion for Winning Gene.

Hasn’t gotten the attention from our scouting, analytics, and front office it requires to build a Panthers-like culture, imo. Don’t believe I’ve ever heard Adams emphasize it.

Winning your shift, winning a puck battle on the boards, winning every game. A GM, Coach, or Player either has it or doesn’t.

Kid speaks well.

Growing up around the NHL helps in that regard, but he also sounds intelligent. I like hearing that fans will love Kesselring first as a person then as a player.

He also sounds like there is some leadership inside and he admits being a hockey nerd.

They both did.

It’s gospel for some on here that “nobody wants to come to Buffalo.”

Here are 2 guys who very clearly are happy to be coming to Buffalo.

“Closer to family, Tage is a cool guy, Dahlin and Power are great players” and most importantly “I’m going to get an opportunity to show people how good I can be.”

It’s kinda like @thorny’s thing upthread about the Savoie trade: the truth is there are probably as many opinions about trades as there are internet accounts and none of them really mean much once the puck drops.

I remember being real excited about getting Chris Gratton and really pissed off about flipping Alex Mogilny for skinny little Mike Peca. The original Hasek trade? It was a shrug.

What the ***** do I know?

Maybe we get lucky and these kids can make a difference: isn’t that what fandom is built on?

At least they’re changing something.
