Carolina doesn’t even make my top 10 most hated teams in the league.  I’ve never really understood the disdain for the team.  They beat the Sabres in the playoffs.  Whoop Dee damn doo.  So have a dozen other teams. It’s weird and I feel like it’s only a certain generation of fans that feel this way.

I despised the way Staal played for the Sabres.

My feelings for him otherwise are completely neutral.

Wherever the angst comes from, I  must have been out of the room 🤷‍♂️

I mean the hiring itself is pretty typical old boy NHL stuff: Yzerman, Sakic, Lafontaine, Neely, Shanahan, Francis, Blake — the number of former stars hired for these kinda positions to get their feet wet in management for no other reason than their connections is long and well-walked.

i doubt he brings much, but I'd rather this than not this.

I hear Patrik Berglund is looking to get into the advisor game as well.

What's Ville Leino doing these days?

It won't bother this owner.

Clearly Eric is a "fine" "young" "man".

This is a meaningless move by the Sabres.  It’s just a job for a buddy of Adams and former star player who is looking to learn about being in NHL management. Why he’d want to learn in the 2nd worst organization in pro sports I have no idea.
(The NY Jets are the worst organization in pro sports).

Lance told us that Adams had no advisors around him, very rare in todays NHL, and Terry must have read that article and fixed it.

You can see the proactive moves coming.    🙂

He never bothered to show up for an entire season in Buffalo.  Feels like that should have been enough to eliminate him as a candidate.

It's because of the team they beat/injured.  That was the one people thought would win it all.  It definitely means a lot more to the people who lived there at that time.  I wasn't here at that point, but the fans here do definitely hold a grudge against us even still.

So shouldn’t the fans be more upset with the Sabres and their lack of actual NHL defensive depth?  Why focus your anger on the beneficiaries?  They didn’t do anything wrong. They did what the Sabres couldn’t.  It’s a weird generational thing.  Assigning blame to where it doesn’t belong.

And Adams had to convince Staal to get traded to Buffalo in the first place, so clearly the motivation was there right from the get-go.

The only silver linings I have are: 1) Staal only just left the ice so he can provide a bit of pro scouting, which is something Adams' regime has been pretty poor with (see Staal as player), and 2) a seemingly-useless role being added indicates that money is available to spend. Maybe it's the beginning of the end of EEE.

Those both feel like pretty big reaches for silver linings to me. It's just hiring a friend.

He played 32 games for the Sabres, and it was 32 games too many.  Guy had absolutely no interest in being here.

Of course our sh#t GM doubles-down on that and hires him onto his staff.

Brett Hull didn’t do anything wrong. Go ask most sabre fans over the age of 40 what they think about him. This whole thing is completely natural and you’ll find something similar with just about any fanbase out there.

I think I have my nicknames for the Special Advisor and the Senior Adviser.

And I apologize for taking the Muppets names' in vain.

Staaltler and (TBD: Waldorf).

They're in the theater, right close to the action, interacting but not exactly helpful to the act on stage.

I thought Hull was an ass hat before, during and after no goal.  The person who fans should really be mad at is Bettman.  Again with people assigning blame to the wrong person. It’s an epidemic.  Don’t hate the playa, hate the game.  The league had egg on its face and never owned up to it.  Instead fans seek out a different villain, one with a more identifiable face, Brett Hull.

Mmm, lemonade.  But why does it have a nutty aftertaste?

I really hope this question has a palm tree joke punchline.

Sadly, no.  Simply an observation that you're attempting to make lemonade out of this situation, but instead of water, lemons, and sugar you've also got the postgurgitated remanants of a dog's dinner added to the blend.

Yum.
