No excuses.  That’s why an executive needs to be a good recruiter too.

Nonetheless, a candidate that has demand certainly would have some incentive to turn down a position if they have evaluated that position to be a career killer.

You both wildly underestimate the hubris and ego of ppl at the top of hockey offices while simultaneously refuse to except that NHL gm is not like any other corporate job. 

There's candidates and the Sabres did not look. So you're providing the same old excuse of "well, there's no one else" which sounds like a wgr afternoon take.

They could have Ken Holland tomorrow to run the hockey dept if Terry swallowed some pride and opened the wallet. He wants back in and is being looked at for the Isles position.

This comes down to Terry not trusting hockey people and being cheap with the Sabres.

wtf are you trying to say? That a guy who has failed to get in the playoffs for 5 straight years and made zero progress should NOT be fired? So yes, fire people. Of course. 

Hire a true hockey person with lots of experience and let them hire an entire management and coaching structure. Trying to be that Carolina team we all hate is not what I want to see.

I'd fire Adams and then methodically go through the staff. I'd make analytics a bigger factor in decisions. I'd review all the players and figure out which I'm shipping out before October. I'd use my 9th overall pick as trade bate. I'd build a team that can win a playoff series, something Pegula has never done.

Hire the right people, Pegula lucked out with McDermott/Beane of the Bills and needs to find the same luck with the Sabres. Maybe poach up and comers from top notch organizations like the Golden Knights/Wild/Panthers etc., doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity is it not?

Together or apart, they are terrible reasons for not making needed change.  Betting money should be on things getting worse. There just isn’t any precedent for a 1st time GM having no success through 5 seasons, and then figuring it out in year 6.  

 

 

It just doesn’t make any sense that $1 million or a few million dollars matters more to a billionaire than their reputation. It’s really hard for me to buy that. Sure I know some of them are probably Scrooge McDucks, but dude you absolutely killed it with the Buffalo Bills and you’re basically fielding a playoff hockey team away from being a Buffalo legend. Saving a few bucks is more important? 

I just can’t get on board with that. I personally think he got a bit lucky with McBeane and has suffered somewhat of a crisis of self belief when it comes to his ability to clock a person accurately in the world of pro sports. Someone else mentioned that he might be paralyzed a bit and staying pat feels better right now. I just think he has no confidence in choosing somebody in the NHL world to right this ship. 

I really don’t think he doesn’t care about the Sabres, I think it has become a massive embarrassment for him but now he is too discombobulated to figure out how to get out of this mess. It’s honestly insane that Kevyn has gotten another year. But I don’t think it has anything to do with money.
