I thought Artuu would get a longer look

I didn't get to see much of it, but it sounded like his last game was a bit underwhelming?

It sounds like we have a new #2C in the plan for the season and everyone else dropped down a notch.  I def see Artuu getting bumped, and Casey is at good risk of being bumped down as well.

Did he play in 3 of the 4 games so far?

Yes he did

His speed has been evident and the he has been the “Corsi Champion” amongst the forwards in the games he played. I do wonder if Liga asked him to be returned sooner, rather than later if he wasn’t going to make the team.

No surprises. They need to cut another 6 forwards. Sobotka, eli, dea are 3.

That's a large assumption for Sobotka. Unfortunately, I'm not convinced the brass sees him as the turd fest that anyone with eyeballs can figure out.

Smith didn’t get much of a look, but Vesey and Oloffson clearly had him beat so it makes sense. The game was too big for Ruostu

Kinda surprised CJ was cast away so quickly.  He's shown he can play on occasion. In my mind he's a significant upgrade to Sobotka.

What do you mean bumped down?  Bumped to roch?  Or centring the third line?  I would love to see Mitts centring the third line (even if Johonsson isn’t the answer at 2c).

Still have 31 players, right, not counting injuries?

Goalie is set. And/or it’s Borgen versus Joki versus Gilmour for the 7th D and/or Monty’s spot.

But there are still 19 forwards. I am surprised Dea is still here and CJ gone, but otherwise that’s a pretty logical cutoff point.

The tough choices still have to come.

The real question is besides Goalofsson who has really impressed in camp so far?  Borgen?

I liked Ralph’s comment about needing to be behind the bench in a game to get the right feel for individual players and how they execute the game plan: essentially, when you watch video, you don’t know what the players have been asked to do.

He also talked a lot about having 15 guys you know are going to make the team and the other decisions come down to role fulfillment: where are the holes after those 15 and who best fills them?

So with that caveat, and with Olofsson on the team, I have Lazar, Asplund, and Cozens as bubble guys I still have to make a decision on. Neither Joki, nor Borgen have blown me away, but the Montour injury means one will be here opening night.

So Gilmour, Lazar, Thompson and Dea are still up.  Interesting.

I haven't seen a Dea game/highlight yet. How has he looked?

Lazar as a 4 makes sense given last game. But with Olofsson making it on a wing, does that leave Thompson as the top winger in the AHL this year? Because I don't see Thompson as a 4.

Either or, really.  I think he's a bubble guy at this point, and some of the bubble guys have looked better than Casey.

I think with his Finnish team being down 0 - 5 in the season, they did him a solid by sending him back early.   Doubt he would have had a good shot with all the bodies we have.
