It's a modest cap hit, they didn't reward Reino for a lousy season in his contract year, and they didn't get married to someone who might not be worth it. But I also think JBot pushed the salary cap dead space issue, and that if Sam wants that top contract he needs to wait until there's more space cleared.... and he proves he's worth it. Liger is right that Dahlin’s contract won’t take effect until the following year, but it will still be a big factor in their planning — especially if all 3 of them prove worthy of fat long-term deals.
