Well, I think it's possible to think both things -- i.e. that the tank was a mistake AND that there is reason to be optimistic for the team's prospects next year and in the long term. While I admit to frequent pessimism about my hometown teams, I also think (i) the facts have generally borne out this view and (ii) long-term, both teams are in about as good a position as could reasonably be hoped for -- i.e. secured in Buffalo with a committed, deep-pocketed owner. I have a friend who works for a casino whose told me Murray has been ejected from the casino for being too drunk before so I'm assuming he's just became a typical victim of Buffalo Sports. They're both capable, boring, have had a ton of success and have dominated the Sabres. Because of the pushback surrounding them, the quality of their resumes gets lost. That's not the same thing as saying we are certain to end up like Edmonton -- although I think the Edmonton scenario is more likely than the Pittsburgh scenario. Radar Posted May 3, 2017 Report Share Posted May 3, 2017 As surprised as I was that Murray was fired it was more that I thought he would get more time not that he didn't deserve to be fired. His moves seemed to be, with the exception of the ROR deal, very questionable to me. While as a fan I could see where his personality could be amusing and to some attractive I can also see where it could be a problem professionally. Later reports of poor communication and organization came as no real surprise given his personality. In the end I don't like the turmoil surrounding our teams and I hope ownership is learning by it and are moving forward to remedy it. I can't say the recent moves were not called for though. How is he going to set up the hockey department? Will he keep Mark Jabukowski in charge of the cap. Who does he bring in as the AGM to run the Amerks. Kyle Raftis with his analytics background would be a great choice. Most importantly who is his Coach? Housley or does he search the AHL for someone like Sheldon Keefe?
